when i play video games i listen to the music alot. almost more then i actually play the game. some games have a really intreging soundtrack, others i just mute the music and turn on my own music

so my question: what game soundtrack did you really like to listen to almost more then you cared to play the game?

for me its Command & Conquer Red Alert 3. i almost want to stay in constant battle with my enemies so i can just listen to the music

Favorite soundtrack ever: Kingdom Hearts series, but I love the games too. So a game where I love the music more than the actual game....Tetris Worlds for the PS1. Seriously, the music was addicting! I always wanted to try doing an aerobic workout to it...

Super Mario Galaxy. Never have I heard such beautifully orchestrated music in a game before, especially Good Egg and Gusty Garden Galaxies

A game I loved the music for was the upbeat Bust-a-move music it was awesome.

The Total War games. The in battle music is somewhat intuitive. When you and your opposing army make the initial charge, the music hypes up, and if you time it just right the cresendo hits just as the waves of soldiers clash into each other. And in the Rome one, that one song in the map section with the woman singing in what I think is Italian. I dunno why, but despite my preference for rock music, I totally dig that one.

Duke Nukem 3D, Shadow the Hedgehog, and Timesplitters future perfect. There are others like most sonic 2D games, Metroid and the like but the first three are my favorite.

Good thing you said "almost" or this would be unanswerable. Who pays $60 for a soundtrack?

I'm scrolling though iTunes and I see the Metroid series, Starcraft, Fallout 3 licensed soundtrack (the original works are dull for me), No More Heroes (Heavenly Star is too catchy), and FFX are the five most played video game groups. So yah, those games have pretty damn good music.

Tales of Symphonia and Vesperia came close though.

*Ahem*

Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Holy crap. Espeically the Metroid and Kirby songs in that game; they're ridiculously awesome.

I also really love pretty much any Super Mario, The Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy music.

I know it's really not from a video game, but the music from FFVII: Advent Children is more or less the most awesome music, ever.

I think the music from both Zelda OOT & MM was rather catchy and seemed to match the different landscapes. I also remember an old RTS from years ago called Earth 2140. Hated the game but I kept the disc because you could play it like a normal cd.

Civilization 4. "Baba Yetu" is high on my list of all time favorite songs.

Otherwise, Halo and BF 1942 had pretty good menu/intro music.

Best songs from Brawl included Dr Mario, Mona Pizzas Song, Tal Tal Heights, Hidden Mountain and Forest, Super Mario World Ending, Stickerbush Symphony and Porky's Theme

I listen to a lot of soundtracks, but the best example would be the Linger in Shadows soundtrack. It's not big track-wise, but I like epicness. As for the game...I'll buy it someday.

Planescape: Torment

Almost every song throughout the game is a slightly altered version of the same main theme with separate instruments and a different tone to suit the specific character or location it's representing. It may sound boring, but it ultimately helps set a mood throughout the game that's both haunting and beautiful. It's also one of the very few instrumental game themes I can recognize within an instant of hearing it.

Listen to it yourself, here's an excellent example.

Deionarra's theme - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZOuy4YM0AI

My favourite songs are Space Armada; Theme of Samus, Space Warrior; Theme of Love; Butter Building; Gourmet Race. Oh, I also love Twilight Princess Hyrule Field theme, but that's song was taken straight from the game.

Nah. I love the characters. If the game had Megaman, it would have been everything I could possibly want out of a Smash Bros. game (minus the online part).

Turanic Raiders Battle Music [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fzo4ONrI8n8&fmt=18]
Swarmer Battle Music [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-jzeQIJf4PE&fmt=18]
Homeworld - Yes (The ending credits theme) [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fIqR6T7nZE&fmt=18]
Mothership Launch Cinematic (Featuring Adagio for Strings vocal). [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yrW4jkQdmjI&fmt=18]

The soundtrack gave me goosebumps whenever I listened to it.

Also:

"There has been speculation supported though various sources that Relic has re-acquired the rights to the Homeworld franchise from Vivendi. Finally, following the discovery of a document on the United States Patent and Trademark Office's electronic filing system by a fan, THQ confirmed that Relic indeed owns the trademark again, making a continuation of the series under THQ's lead possible. However, no comment on future installments was given."
