Video Game Soundtracks

I was just wondering if anyone is as passionate about video game soundtracks as I am around here?
I feel as tho Video Game OST's are a tottally underappreciated art form in every sense of the word. I encounter music snobbery every day when Im asked "whats that your listening to?"
whats everyone elses opinions on this?

There are some good soundtracks but some really bad ones too. The Monkey Island soundtracks were great.

Some games have pretty good music, I guess. Listening to them later can remind you of the game without having to play it. I would rather find good music where ever I can get it and not live in hope of getting lucky with a good game soundtrack.

I've always considered myself a hardcore fan of videogame music. It's a highly unappreciated genre. 'Course, like every genre, it's not without it's flaws, but it's still my favorite.

I'm particularly fond of the huge remix community over at OverClocked ReMix [http://www.ocremix.org/]. There are some very talented individuals over there, many of which I fully expect to seek careers in the industry. Some have even already made it; the soundtrack for Super Street Fighter II: HD Remix was done entirely by the folks behind the Blood on the Asphalt remix project at OCRemix.

wow, that site is preety intense. Im really into making music myself, some of those mixes are really well polished.

My fav soundtrack recently was the "Bionic Commando Re-armed" soundtrack it was really well done IMO

I liked the music on FF8, I think adding the choral aspects was great (also the first polyphonic FF soundtrack)

Normally I don't respond to people who can't get the difference between your and you're correct, however the Okami soundtrack (all five CDs) is the best out there for its manifold themes and genres.

MGS 1 has a good soundtrack as well as FF7 i also feel Fallout 3 had a good choice of music and also Pheonix Wright has a good soundtrack.

Music for me is a big selling point in how I think about a game. Music is a large contributor to the atmosphere which can make even a bad game feel good to play.

I pretty much got every sound track related to a square/square enix game on my computer, bash their games all you want but there is no doubt they have some of the best sound tracks ever. This is not even including remixes. Got a ton of Mega Man music and jumbled bits of music from a fuck ton of other games. Hell Game sound tracks are what I listen to most as I just can't like any other type of music with some exception to rock, metal, and blues. I just don't like lyrics...at all. I prefer the melody and music over whats being said and they lyrics just prove to be rather distracting and nonsensical most of the time.

It does get annoying and petty when people scoff at you for even the thought of listening to game music. All I gotta say is that they are missing out on some really awesome shit. Give me Nobuo Uematsu over any of today's modern music artists.
