So, I'm wondering, what are your favourite boss fights in video games. They can be as epic and as large scale as Shadow of the Colossus, or tiny things like a boss in a WoW instance. Absolutly any boss goes, any game, any genre from any system at all.

All I ask is that you let on your top five, and give a brief description of the mechanics of the fight and why you enjoyed it.

1. Ocelot in Metal Gear Solid 3. Any fan should see this as pure nerdgasm.
2. The Boss in Metal Gear Solid 3. Awesome music. Awesome story. Awesome atmosphere.
3. The End in Metal Gear Solid 3. Best sniper battle ever!
4. The Sorrow in Metal Gear Solid 3. Totally different in any way, and was a huge mind fuck.
5. Volgin in Metal Gear Solid 3. In my opinion, the best brawl in the whole series.

...Oh...

...

New list!

1. Metal Gear Solid 3 *Ahem*
2. Baldur & the last Joan fight in Bayonetta was damn epic. Everything a battle of super beings should be.
3. LUUUUU BUUUUUU at the gate in Dynasty Warriors 4. My friends and I have a theory that Lu Bu is the mightiest in the universe.
4. Palmer in FFVII. The fat fucker...
5. Ultros from FFVI. Heheheh, seafood soup! Does this make me a bad octopus?

Honorable Mention (Because even mentioning this battle makes all other boss battles inferior): God, at the end of Bayonetta. First, you ride a motorcycle at a 90 degree angle, up a rocket that sent God into space, dodging missiles and angels. Then, you summon a demon made from hair that is the size of Jupiter. With that demon, you then punch God through the solar system, into the sun, and then ride God into the atmosphere, turning her into a fine, snortable powder before she collides with the world.

You...you can't beat that!

The first time my wife and me took down Archmage Arugal from SFK in WoW duo at level 22 was pretty epic.

Taking down Mother Brain in the first NES Metroid was also pretty epic.

Speaking of NES games - Metal Gear - Big Boss - Pretty epic fight for a NES game

Most epic was first taking down Tyranthraxus in Pools of Radiance on the C64 - That ***** still gives me shivers. Round 1 - He takes over your mage - grrrrrr

Finally Get to the part of the game where you could Take Vaan Out of your party in FF12 The hardest boss battle in history is trying to care about him as a character afterwards.

5: Raam - Gears of War. It was badass.

4: Zul'Jin - World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade. I hated myself for killing him but he was a fun fight!

3: Bizarro Sephiroth - Final Fantasy 7. It was one of the hardest bosses I had ever killed at my young age, and the music was great.

2: Ragnaros - World of Warcraft. The fight is just amazing you're put up against a giant elemental, anyone who's ever fought Ragnaros will surely understand.

1: Onyxia (40 man) - World of Warcraft. I just loved tanking this fight alongside 39 other people.

The final boss from borderlands.

*stops laughing* But seriously, some of the borderlands bosses were pretty good.

1: Gannondorf/Gannon. ANY fight from the series. Go on, pick. They are always awesome.
2: Culex from Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. A tough boss, with FF4 music playing in a Mario game? What more do you want in an RPG boss, people?
3: Ares from God of War. A regular fight, a defend-people bit with the ability to heal them (something escort missions need), and a unique final stage.
4: Lavos from Chrono Trigger. The fact that you can fight him at any point in the game after a certian point (very early point, i might add) is pretty cool, and the fact that even if you do everything he's still annoying as hell makes him a good final boss.
5: Pretty much any MGS boss. A unique bunch, for sure, making for some exciting boss fights. If I had to pick one, I'd say the one everyone remembers for the WTF Factor: Psycho Mantis. You know what I'm talking about...

1. Ganondorf in Wind Waker. Epic swordfighting on top of a tower with an ocean crashing down on you? Yes please.

2. Firkraag in Baldur's Gate 2. First time that dramatic music started and this huge red thing just started throwing my whole party around its lair like rag dolls I just sat there with my mouth open. If you get to him early (pre-Spellhold), this guy is hard.

3. Julius from Mystic Quest on the gameboy. If only because it was my first end boss ever. It was one of those multi-stage affairs so for a first time it felt pretty epic. Actually it kinda was epic, because of its setting, and then it was followed by a pretty bittersweet ending.

4. Melissan, in Throne Of Bhaal. Took me weeks to beat her. Incredibly tough, but once you nail her, you've finished an incredibly long journey. One of the most satisfying endings in videogame history.

5. Seraph Sephiroth. Yeah, I know. But when I reached him the first time, I was seriously underleveled, and it was a really close call. You know how in any Final Fantasy game, when you beat a boss, the screen flashes a couple of times and makes this "kssh-kssh" sound? Yeah. Relief washed over me, and I sat back and revelled in my victory.

Really? What about Snake v Snake on the MG Rex in MGS1? What about the ridiculous Ocelot fight in 4?

I can't even remember the Volgin fight in 3, I thought it was by far the weakest boss in the game. Only thing I can remember that if you throw a particular kind of frog at him he jumps back and is frightened. MGS easter eggs...so awesome.

Diablo (Diablo 2)
Archdemon (Dragon Age)
Glados (Portal)
Zul'Jin (World of Warcraft)
Yogg'Saron (World of Warcraft)

I feel like I've played a lot of games with unmemorable bosses, like Strategy and RTS games where I didn't finish the campaign, it didn't have bosses, or they weren't that memorable. I vaguely remember a lot of FPS bosses (Hitler in Wolf3D, Lava guy in Q1, Tank guy in Q2, Floating Baby in HL1) but none of them really made an impact. The ones I listed above aren't necessarily the most interesting characters or fights ever but defeating them was epic and memorable to me.

5- Lucifer from Painkiller. Fighting, who is basically satan, in the middle of what appears to be a nuclear explosion! Shame you can barely see anything and the battle is piss easy (On another note, Painkiller has the best Hell level EVER, even if you don't really fight anything)
4- The Hunter from Dead Space. He stalks you through the airducts for the levels that he is in so he can come from anywhere and you can shoot him all you want but he will NOT die. Time to get creative...(Eyes widen when see's Freezer)
3- Mecha Hitler from Wolfenstein 3D (It's Adolf freakin' Hitler In a blue mechsuit with quadro chainguns!)
2- The Cyberdemon from Doom. He's big, he has a rocket launcher for an arm and in some levels/mods, he's everywhere.
1- The Hydra from God of War. It's the first level, you've killed your first 10 enemies and HOLYJESUSWHATTHEFUCKISTHAT!

Ugh, this is gonna be tough to do. There's only so many I can remember. I don't know if I'll give an order, but I'll just list five of my favs.

1. Leviathan - Dead Space - Just entering the room with him is enough to psych you out, cuz he IS the room!
2. Guilty Spark - Halo 3 - You finally get to blow the damned thing to pieces!
3. Relics Keeper - Brave Fencer Musashi - Definitely keeps you on your toes, and has one of the most awesome boss themes ever IMO.
4. Nevan - DMC 3 - Again, keeps you on your toes, and grants one of my all-time favorite weapons: a freakin' "electric" guitar!
5. Any boss fight from Persona 4 - I know it goes against the deal, but I can't determine ONE favorite; every battle is symbolic in some way and has another boss theme I outright love.

I won't ramble on anymore. Need to save some for other people right?
