I have to write an argumentative paper on how Video Games can be used as a resource in society. The only thing that is coming to me is the educational value with an example being Six Days In fallujah. What other things could write about. It has to be at least a three point thesis.

You could also write about their cultural value. Video games are products of different societies and they are very much a reflection of who we are as humans. Examples: wanting to play as the hero, our interest in violence, comparing similar genres from different countries (RPGS and JRPGS).

Good luck and I recommend that you start writing as soon as possible and then edit, edit, edit!

Chased's post is a really good point, also there have been several games developed by scientists to help map DNA, (Google it, there have been several games like this helping scientific discoveries)

And the demand for games consoles helping innovation and the production of new technology which can be used for other purposes (Kinect being used in medical science, for a tonne of other stuff)

Oh, and Games helping post-tramatic stress victims, again there was an article about it on the Escapist not long ago.

Well you could go with early-learner games (Leap-frog type stuff) pretty easily as learning tools to engage younger children with increasingly shorter attention spans for non-interactive media.

You could talk about the value of perpetuating the mythology of various cultural values (the hero and anti-hero in video games corresponds nicely to the literary equivalents, and with readership of novels etc. declining over the years video games are something of a life-boat for these narrative values)

You could discuss the culture of video game players as a subgroup in society that offers an international kinship for a generation disassociated with other culture groups (like neighborhoods and such) due to the decreased amount of human contact in a digital world.

They are obviously a resource in terms of employment and jobs with good diversity of skills being drawn from (programming, writing, art, acting (voice), etc.).

I try to center at least one assignment per term around a video game related idea just so for kicks, and these are some of the things I've visited in the past.

I say , talk about how video games help you learn to think logically . Take mario for example , a player must understand that falling into a hole costs you a life , actions have consequences . A child that plays mario must understand that in order to reach the end of the stage he must avoid monsters , avoid pits , jump at the right time , etc... Even violent games like cod take logical thinking to pass through a level , standing in the open gets you kiilled etc... Puzzle games make you think logically also obviously . Jrpgs / rpg help you to read and think about the effects of stats points , also discovering enemies weakness and strenghts to progress through the game with ease . Games help , perception , reflexes , logical thinking , hand eye coordination , reading , solving problems and a whole bunch of other things . I would go more into detail but i'm tired and i guess you could see my point . Just break a game down to the mechanics and you will easily find the answers to your question.
