Video Games introducing you to music?

Okay, recently I've noticed that a few songs that I would never, ever listen to (Rap, Country, etc.) appear in my games. And for some reason, it seems to enhance the gameplay. I'll sing along to it, I'll try to line up the action so it matches the events (Like a piano cord being struck, matching the rockets I fire).
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is this:
Does anyone here have an example of how a video game has introduced you to a genre you normally would not listen to?

Guitar Hero got me into music, now I just play real guitar and am thankful for what happened to me.

Tony Hawks, need for speed and burnout got me into Punk and alternative rock/metal. Bands from these games include Rise Against, Celldweller, Styles of beyond, The explosion, Disturbed (In a way), Public enemy, Powerman 5000.. the list can go on but most of those bands are due to Tony Hawks (Pro Skater 2 mostly).

Probably Homeworld, it introduced me to Yes (they did the song that played in the credits). Which introduced me to progressive rock, which introduced me to Rush, which got me into Dream Theater, and it just has gone from there.

Guitar Hero/Rock Band serves pretty well at that.

On the other hand, I was not much for video game music until Final Fantasy 3(6) brought-out their groundbreaking soundtrack. It was the first and only time I actually bought the CDed soundtrack to a game (Kefka's Domain). The Opera still affects me.

Agree strongly. THPS2, Burnout 2 and 3 were great for alternative and american punk. Guitar Hero 1, 2 and 3 found me some interesting stuff, namely DETHKLOK and Drist. And I could never forget the ragtime unlockable for CoD4 ^_^

Sort of, Gran Turismo introduced the nine year old me to industrial, metal, rock in general and this little Welsh band called Feeder.

Now there was a life changing experience if ever there was one.

While I declare that I almost certainly hate all bands with any degree of fame, I am genuinely impressed by most video game music. It's almost tricky to find a video game that DOESN'T have great music.

I've pondered long as to why that is, and I still do not know.

Yeah... it's awesome, and really works with any post-apocalyptic game

I'm far too much of a music elitist than to let video games influence me on what I listen to, any good song I've heard in games (like guitar hero and stuff, not original soundtracks) are things I already listened to.

Not to sound stuck up or anything. =-)

I occasionally find a song I havnt heard in a game. NFS did this more then naught. However I absolutely love the music from Homeworld. Guitar hero didnt really introduce me to anything I havnt heard it just kinda reinspired me to listen to old stuff again.

Mirror's Edge convinced me to investigate the Swedish artist Solar Fields, which in turn introduced me to Ultimae Records, to whom I've now gladly given much of my hard-earned cash. Win-win.

I don't have the game WET and I won't probably buy it, but I downloaded the demo and the music was very cool. I looked it up on youtube and I listen to some of it whenever I'm animating or playing video games (like L4D if I want to go Rambo).

Mass Effect got me hooked on The Faunts. M4PartII was awesome, but their song 'Twenty-three' is my fave...

I haven't really, but my friend had music introduce him to a game! He was listening to Rammstein, and said so, and another friend said 'oh hey, they're in Final Fantasy X!'. And now he like Final Fantasy!

GTA: SA. First time that I heard a lot of good music. Including the first time I heard Freebird.
