When bad shit happens to an absolute stranger who has no reasonable effect on your life, you don't rush in to help. Oh, of course, a bunch of rich and well-supported people are going to wave their moral high ground at you, but if you lived in certain places you know that sometimes it's better to keep quite and not see anything.

Mom and Dad don't go to a pediatrician for a medical evaluation. CNN shouldn't go to a child psychologist for anthropological insight on the adults of inner-city USA.

I'm left wondering why they brought a guy who calls himself a "child" psychologist on to discuss the bystander effect. Truly they could have gotten somebody who does their work in violent behavior?

Either way, I think that movies & TV would have a larger effect on "violence desensitization" (if such a thing exists) than videogames would.

Everyone I know who was made aware of this event was made sick by it (in some form or another). Truly, if there was a "violence desensitization" effect, less people would care and this wouldn't be made national news.

Ironically, the fact that this psychologist's opinion was briefly made national news is evidence against his theory. I.E., if people were desensitized to violence, the event wouldn't be as noteworthy as it is, and therefore wouldn't have been broadcast.

That's idiotic.

Homeless people don't play video games.
Unless they manage to scrounge up some coin for an internet cafe.
And play what, runescape? hardly enough to desensitise one from such an attack.

In case it was too subtle, i reckon video games are the bees knees

Sounds like this guy (the psychologist) has a chip in his shoulder against games, or at least the guys that fund his studies.
He has a book about how to deal with troubled teens

Its a easy book plug and a easy scapegoat

My thoughts exactly. What was that guy doing there?
And anyway, I didn't see any blood in that footage. Most people probably assumed the guy was sleeping on the sidewalk. You know, like what most homeless people do... (Except the one who turned him over, but that was an obvious cretin)

People are assholes. A dieing guy is next to them and they do nothing. Also, the only case where you can do nothing to help someone that is dieing is in Left 4 Dead. If there is another game please tell me.

Video Games? Really? Do some ground-research please. Very few games lets you watch someone on the floor obviously dieing and let you do nothing.

Oh, that's just silly. Nobody would buy that people leave a man dying in the street because of video games. Not everyone PLAYS. Even if there was some truth to it, which there isn't, you don't have all the bases covered there, bucko.

You know,I don't see ANY videogames that let you see someone on the curb in a normal city where your doing literally nothing and lets someone bleed to death. You know,These idiots are too stupid to believe that some videogame that involves someone with a gun makes people ignore a dying man, maybe next they'll blame music and art for not being filled with flowers ponys and non-carbonated beverages?
