I dunno because I'm more of an FPS kinda guy, I think that for the most part, when there is a popular game with an awesome story (a bit rare, but...) what makes it great is the interactive factor. Fallout and Bioshock are cool because there's you dropped into the middle of it all. Hell, think about Portal. Who'd wanna watch some girl jump through holes in the wall for two hours?
Hitman (I don't want to acknowledge the one they made because it wasn't good enough). Gears, maybe? I don't know, it would look pretty cool.
Edit: That bit in the original Gears of War trailer where Marcus is running down the street and smashes through a wall, only to find himself face to face with a huge monster; and all to the theme of Gary Jules' Mad World... The Gears 2 trailer wasn't half bad too. They could totally make it into a film, I've convinced myself.

The Longest Journey and Dreamfall are practically just interactive movies as is, get a good cast and tighten up the script some and you'd have the premise for a killer sci-fi movie trilogy.
I agree with Majinary on this. A lot of games that have brilliant stories would get lost in translation when taken from console to theatre. I think God of War could easily translate directly to screen with very little story adaption needed, but in saying that the appeal of that would be to see those big screen action sequences with gargantuan beasts of Greek mythology, and Clash of the Titans has probably got that covered pretty well.Majinary said:

Seriously, it was just barely a videogame in the first place, even for a story-driven adventure game. I loved the story, the characters, the settings, the music.... but there just wasn't any "game" to the videogame.
