Video Games you cannot criticize.

I do not believe there is such a thing as a perfect game. Every game has flaws. Now, I love video games, and I love certain series, but is there a single game that you just can't criticize?

Now, I know we'll see a lot of Half-Life, Zelda, Metroid, Gears of War, Halo, and so forth. But you really gotta think before answering this. A game you "cannot criticize" is a game that in NO WAY made you go "why the eff is it doing THAT?" That during the course of the game itself you never badmouthed it for a MOMENT. A game that made you love every second, and want to play more after it was done. A game that in your eye is 100% genuine, perfect.

Now, I should provide an example, but at the moment, I can't think of one. Even some of my favorite games of all time have issues. Zelda Ocarina of time: Repetitive. Starcraft: Unbalanced. Fallout 3: Too Easy. World of Warcraft: Takes too long, too expensive. Rollercoaster Tycoon: Really Repetitive.

But as I was writing this, I think I had a revelation... Goldeneye. Yes, I don't think I can criticize it. Okay, except for the "Train" mission on 00 Agent. I mean COME ON! It takes her to 3 seconds left to find out where cuba is!!! The last objective is LITERALLY all about a split-second decision that could force you to do the ENTIRE LEVEL over again! It's not even an easy level! It's pretty damn hard!

Dammit. I couldn't even do it for goldeneye. But, beyond that one objective on one level under one difficulty, I can't think of any major criticism I have for it. So there's my opinion: Goldeneye for the N64.

Think carefully now, what is the one game you can't criticize? (I know I couldn't think of one without pointing out a flaw, but come on. There has to be one person who believes a certain game is a platinum statue made out of chocolate.)

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Spyro the Dragon. Pure platforming perfection...

The Escapists top game is Fallout 3. That has to mean something.

Portal and Roller Coaster Tycoon (first one, with expansion packs). You can't count repetition against a management sim.

What game has always been a shinning apple in my eye?
That would probably be Jak and Daxter (The first one.)

I loved that game, and the fact that it was the very first PS2 game I ever purchased made it a pivotal moment in my gaming life.

((And yes, some of the above games are also really good. Can't believe I forgot about Spyro the dragon.))

Hmm...Tsukihime's sex scenes weren't written well, A Drug That Makes You Dream had too many, and Kanon's were fairly pointless. Otherwise, I would have no immediately obvious criticisms of those games. Wizardry 8 was a bit long, with a wacky difficulty curve and little support for dual-specialization. Tales of Symphonia had the inane Ymir Forest puzzle. Devil May Cry 3...

Okay, I have two: Devil May Cry 3 and Fate/Stay Night.

Admittedly, I'm specifically referring to DMC3: Special Edition, which fixed the difficulty settings. Otherwise, I really can't think of anything I didn't like. The music was awesome, the story was decent, the characters interesting and entertaining, the puzzles and exploration were fun, the combat was excellent, and the boss fights were spectacular. The closest I might come to criticism was the way the Arkham fight was handled (specifically, the second half), but it still worked all right (using the coding for the Doppelganger style), was a great moment besides, and was one of the game's hidden instances of multiplayer.

As for Fate/Stay Night...I know of criticisms for the game. I just haven't seen any I agree with. I thought the sex scenes were fine, all of the characters were interesting at minimum and compelling at best (heavily weighted towards the latter), the story was epic, the artwork, pseudo sprite animation, and music were beautiful, and the writing superb.

I think Half-Life 2 is the most well-made game I've ever played. I can criticize it, but it's the last game I would criticize.

Halo: CE is a close second. I actually LIKE Halo:CE more, but I think HL2 is more perfect if that makes sense.

Portal. Of course.

Or- Heavy Rain. When I sit down and think about it(or watch Yahtzee's review again), I can criticize it, but while I was playing, I couldn't put it down or place words in my mouth to criticize it.

It's of my personal opinion that this is as close to gaming perfection as we've gotten. Likeable characters, great voicework, an interesting storyline with unexpected twists, a genuinely fun battle system and one of the deepest fusion systems in a game to date. The only thing that you can really complain about is the hour and a half before you really start getting into Social Links, dungeon crawling and fusing but that's about it.

Are you shooting Xenia in the background as well as Ourumov? If you kill Ourumov and manage to hit Xenia quick enough, she'll go "Wait for me Alec! I'm hit!" and you'll be given more than enough time to get your 00 Agent objectives done.

OT: I'm still waiting for the perfect game. Portal is too short for me and just seems like a giant tutorial with the actual game near the end.

Persona 4 isn't my favorite game, but it's the "best", closest to perfect game I've ever played. It does a lot of things that in any other game would draw my wrath(turn based combat with very little strategy involved, nameless heroic mime main character, extremely anvilicious storyline, etc) but somehow in this game it all works. I can't point at any one part of Persona 4 and say "this is what makes it special", but when you're actually sitting there playing the game it all just comes together beautifully for an absolutely amazing gaming experience. It's the perfect example of the whole being greater than the sum of it's parts.
