Straightfoward question , what game(s) have you given up on soley because it was too hard. For me it was Resonance of Fate , i don't know if i was just playing it poorly but i just kept getting my ass kick , on regular random encounters :(

Inb4 everyone says demons's Souls
Really? Resonance of Fate is really easy if you have any min-maxxing knowledge. But in response to your question, I gave up on Metal Arms: Glitch in the System. After a while, that game got stupid hard.

Loads of flashgames, and Rainbow Six: Vegas on difficult.
One of my previous roomates and I used to play Rainbow Six: Vegas split-screen Terrorist Hunts regularly. There was one or two levels on Realistic/High Concentration (the university, and I can't recall the other off the top of my head) that we simply could NOT finish. Granted, we only allowed one respawn apiece, but they just seemed too blasted hard to finish.

That trend ended when he shot me in the back of the head with his pistol, one night, and we instead started gunning to kill each other off after giving a couple seconds of running time after the mission started. After a week or so of that, the terrorists themselves became a minor annoyance to our efforts to kill each other.

Apart from that, I've dropped off a couple games over the years, but never due to difficulty. When I was younger, it was because the rental time was up. Now, I don't have enough time to actually play games, dick around too much when I do, and end up dropping one to start another (because release times of the games I'm interested in seem to always be a couple weeks apart). I do eventually get back to them and conquer every last bit, but there's still a good handful I've yet to actually finish.

Dragon Age: Origins, I was really unprepared for the final battle to the point that it became virtually impossible.

However couple weeks after I started a new playthrough, prepared better, and breezed through it.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

I absolutely loved the game, but I had to resort to watching my brother play through to the end- I couldn't get past the first few missions. I thought it was really unforgiving.

Call of Duty 3 on Veteran, that Forest level was unbeatable, I tried well over 50 times to beat it, but I just couldn't...

I don't think I ever have really. There are games I set aside because they are frustrating me but I always go back to them at some point.

Mind you trying to 1CC most of my favourite SHMUPs would probably count.

metro 2033 in the library, i know how i was supposed to deal with the librarians but it just didn't work half the time and it was near impossible to fight your way through there.

oh and because a lot of people say Dragon Age: That game was damn hard, especially since my mage had no healing spells and i had to fight my way through the tower at the beginning without any healing. On the other hand, setting tactics for your companions just right so you wipe the floor with armies of darkspawn was very satisfying.

Final fantasy X. Why? I didn't like the game very much.... I grew sick of it at the end, when you're in sin. I then started to skip every single monster and still annihilated that queer ass wimp Seymour. Then I kept skipping monsters untill I came to the final boss. The whole game was too easy up till now (except yunalesca), so I thought I could kill him easy. I was wrong. He could attack twice each turn, almost killing me each time. As soon as I killed those pagodas, they started spinning again immediately the next turn. I stood no chance and kept dying in no time, 3 times. Not wanting to grind, I gave up on that damn game.
Perhaps its just because I'm a massive sad FF fan and am familiar with all the associated bullshit, but I find this absolutely shocking. I don't want to be nasty, but Yu Yevon is the easiest final boss in the entire series- you don't even have to grind up your levels to one-shot him.
Whenever people bring up the "what was the most disappointing boss fight" type thread, it's always, without fail, my answer.

The attack you need is called Zombie Attack; it's available to Auron first. Then you can sit back and watch it kill itself- no further effort required on your part.

i dont get why everyone thinks demon's souls is so hard. compare it to old nes games and its a cakewalk. the only part of the game i really had any difficulty with was 1-4

To be fair I'm someone who whipped through the original Devil May Cry 3 on Dante Must Die mode. Only part I can honestly say drove me to madness was the final boss- considerably more outbalanced than many 'supposed to lose' fights in gaming history.

Metro 2033. It's great otherwise but I just keep on running out of ammo or suddenly get swarmed over by a dozen of monsters. Back when I was a kid I had to give up on Chrono Trigger because I couldn't beat Lavos. Played it again a few years back and was happy to finally get through it. Oh and Bloodbowl. I just can't figure out how it's supposed to be played.

Street Fighter Alpha 3 or something like that, the one with all the -ISM stuff going on, that game gave me nightmares.

And I don't know if this counts as difficulty since it's so god-damned cheap, but Dead Risings, both of them, made me quit not just because of the difficulty, but because of useless controls and a save system that would make you trudge for 10 minutes through zombies everytime you fucked up and had to do it again.

Seriously, I spent about 40minutes fighting that idiot on the bike, until I discovered how to fashion a weapon to get him after he glitches on a wall, to finally go into his trailer to get a weapon on my last sliver of health, get whacked by a zombie I thought was already dead, and do the whole thing again (walk all the way across the mall courtyard, get cutscene, walk all the way back again to fight him, make the weapon etc). Bullshit just gets tiring.

Prototype, solely because of the end boss.
Why are they attacking me when I'm trying to kill the thing rampaging across the aircraft carrier, whislt trying to stop the entire place blowing to Kingdom-Fucking-Come. [sub]Morons...[/sub]
i found the end boss to be the easiest part of the game. i wouldnt call it a hard game, i would call it frustrating as all hell! i spent most of the time shouting (why the fuck are you attacking me?! theres a monster the size of a small building right there, am i really the biggest threat?!
