Because the majority of game studios are American and you don't really like to make games where your players are going to lose the war. It just wouldn't sell too well.

Not just Vietnam spelt wrong. The grammar is all over the place. And there's two of these threads.

OT: Because it wasn't exactly a proud moment in History, as America did not undeniably win and were essentially stepping in as World Police and also to scare off the Russians. Plus it didn't exactly go well for either side as Vietnam civilians suffered heavily (Google Images: Vietnam Napalm Girl) and the Americans did not come out on top.

I'm sure there are more reasons than this, but right now, I'm annoyed and tired.

Calumon: Maybe because wars are bad?

I assume you mean "Games set in the Vietnam War", as opposed to just set in Vietnam. Anyway, ones I can name of the top of my head...

Battlefield: Vietnam (as said above, BC2 is getting a Vietnam expansion as well)

Vietcong 1 and 2

Men of Valor

Shellshock '67 and Shellshock 2: Blood Trails

Conflict: Vietnam

Most of the games are from the last generation or before, and most of them weren't that great either. Like an earlier poster said, its not that there is really a lack of Vietnam games, its just that there are so many more WWII (and other wars) games that it overshadows Vietnam.

There are a ton of Vietnam games. The fact that we didn't win the war didn't slow us down from making games OR movies about it. In fact, that seemed to have encouraged it.

You know what I will agree with him there are not enough games about the French Occupation of Vietnam and ensuing war.

OT: I am going to guess you talking about the USA battle in Vietnam and if that is the case there are plenty for the USA battle. If you are talking about any of the other battles in Vietnam then you are right.

there are.
I know men of valor is set in vietnam, and i think shellshock is too, but i never played that one.
Men of Valor sucked big time though, and I haven't heard anything good about shellshock either, maybe that scared developers off. that and the whole thing that it's easier to sell a game to american audiences in which america was the hero (i.e. WW2 games) than one in which they were... not.

Ummmm... America didnt lose the Vietnam war. We made a huge impact (in our favor) and then withdrew. But by no means did we lose Vietnam

Really? 'cause you withdrew and South Vietnam was dissolved and taken by the North. Not to mention that some more communists sprang up.

Oh, and half a million US dead.

Sounds like losing to me.

Anyway, as stated before, there are plenty of games about 'nam, they're just not AAA titles so you probably won't have heard of them. Kinda ironic as BC2: Vietnam is out next week.

Pfff, hahaha.

Nice attempt at recovery, but you lost it fair and square. Hence why Americans dont like talking about it much.

I suppose also that mentioning the slaughter of unarmed civilians by US troops wouldnt go down well in a game.

Vietnam is the name of a country, and is only one word.
And as Jack said, the grammar is everywhere.

OT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Vietnam_War_video_games

19 in total:].

EDIT: as for a 'why', there are no more reasons that I can think of that haven't already been said.
Also, for this silly argument...I'm pretty sure America withdrew because they couldn't win, and the casualties they suffered were huge.
I don't know all the history about it, but...it sure sounds like they lost?

the Vietcong games coupled with the original c.o.d(before it was all about the multi player) are the 3 best fps in existance...

also men of valour has some good memories for me

are you insane... America may have killed more vc than vc killed Americans but they still failed in their objective...
you can have the fastest car and have been in 1st for the longest but if you don't cross the finish line...

There were quite a few a few years ago, but it seems to have become less popular again.

And for the record, America didn't lose the war. They withdrew because they were stuck in a stalemate which they couldn't win, which makes it a draw. Furthermore, a big part of the problem was anti-war public sentiment in the US. A lot of it is down to historical interpretation.

Shit, we were playing capture the flag and not team deathmatch? Dammit. Do civilian frags actually count in that tally? Jake's post was worth peeking into this thread though. Always good to know American propaganda is alive and well. Surprised he didn't say "it was a tie" when he backpedaled. That is my favorite line people say when mentioning the Vietnam war. That post made my morning.

OT: Yeah, they are out there. As said before, they aren't AAA titles though so aren't that great and and not very well known.
