So says Sky News.

I wonder who they're owned by.
It couldn't be *Dramatic pause* Rupert Murdoch, he of Fox News fame, could it!?
(Though, that being said, I think Sky news is much better than Fox is, they don't really display a bias from what I can see.
They do, just that most of them don't give off an overt "I'm a fucking moron" vibe like everyone on Fox does.

This ain't gaming related. It's pure, ol' fashioned human greed taken to a psychotic level. When a mugger kills for £2.50, do they find out what he spent it on and say he's an addict? No, of course not. It's just games that recorded such biased, stupid media treatment, how silly of me.

Now these stories are really starting to piss me off. Do you see me going out to kill the writer? Tempting but no, my PARENTS taught me better than that. Y'know, that thing? PARENTING? where you, the PARENT teach your kid some morals like an actual half decent PARENT instead of just sitting there letting the rest of the damn world teach your kid how not to be a psychotic asshole! News flash, bad PARENTS of the world! the world is not a nice place, leave it to the world to teach your kid moral guidance, and they'll just end up as another part of the problem instead of the solution you think they'll just turn into overnight.

Damn, poor girl. And what's with the reporter's comments? Addicts = killers? At least the people in the comments knew what they were talking about.

How can this possibly be related to video games? He took a 7-year old girl into the woods and killed her. How could a kung fu online game possibly encourage that kind of behaviour? Obviously the chicken came before the egg, and he played that game because he needed to satiate his violent, merderous instincts. The extreme playing of the game was not the cause, it was the canary in the coal mine, and the people around him did not get him the mental help he clearly needed, which could have prevented this tragedy.

You know some people are born with seriuosly messed up brains. Anti-scoial behavior and whatnot. Im not saying parenting is not involved or cna't hurt or help. But you have to see that laying the blame on bad parenting is just as a blind genearlization as laying the blame at gamings feet.

A certain percentage of people get addicted to things. Weither they try cocaine or freaking farmville first will lead them to their particular extreme. Its sad, but we shouldnt pretend it doesnt exist or that people cannot get addicted to games.

I kind of get the feeling it has something to do with the general population "needing" to understand something. The idea that most people are incapable and unwilling to comprehend insanity, so by pointing their finger and saying "Oh, due to this spurious connection, it's Gaming's fault he killed her".

I mean, yeah, it's a shame that this little girl was murdered, but I feel like even she deserves better than being used as an example for some unrelated "anti-video game" thing.

This is obviously a terrible tragedy not only for the little girl and her family but for the teenagers family aswell. I hope they recognise that psychologically this can't all be laid at the feet of video games.

I hate that they label us all addicts yet most people veg in front of the tv all night. At least we use our brains and communicate with other people.

I wonder when or if Gaming will be accepted as a normal hobby without all the stigma attached to it.

How long has Asia had deaths/murders/killings related to video games? video games have been a major part of society in Asia for quite some time surely gamer killers must have existed for a long time as well.

Why aren't the Asian governments doing anything about this? Have they done anything about it?

The Association for UK Interactive Entertainment (UKIE), which represents businesses in the UK video games industry, was unavailable for comment.
What the hell has this got to do with anything?

Why even mention that? Seriously, why did the person who wrote that article try to contact a company that represents video game business based in the UK? They have nothing to do with this incident!

"Oh, I'm writing an article that I want to scare people with about the evils of video games. Who should I ask about this incident that has taken place in Vietnam supposedly because of a Vietnamese game? People whose only connection to this are that they work in the same industry (but in a different continent)!"

That makes about as much sense as asking share holders in a pharmaceutical company what their take is on a crack addict killing somebody.

Very sad story but i'll have to respond to this thread the same way I respond to all other news articles about games causing murder:

Murder happens with or without games, there are millions of gamers in this world and only a handful have ever committed murder, it is not the fault of the games, it's the fault of the person who committed the act; they are the ones who are to blame and they are the ones who should be punished for their crimes.

My thoughts are with the family of the murdered girl, it must be horrible for them to lose a child and then be shoved in the media spotlight so soon after.

well at least the addiction they're talking about in the article is almost catered to the Asian gaming addiction that's much more severe than what I feel like we've seen here in America, so at least it's not "violent video games are all bad!" as even the article itself seems to be attempting to imply, but rather "addiction to anything is bad" and maybe promoting responsibility......

ah who am I kidding, like anyone takes responsibility these days. it's all about the blame game

but forget this miscreant and his gaming addiction...he bloody killed a girl! ugh...

It's people like him that set everyones mindset back a decade. Can't people just think about it for a second. Just cause a guy says he killed a girl for w/e reason. it doesnt mean everyone who is part of that medium is insane too.
Or maybe most people recognize this but media hype it so they can have a half baked story. The unfortunate downside is that this foolishness is for day-time TV and impressionable mothers can watch it and enforce their ill informed opinion based rule on their children.

I have a feeling that if had not been gaming, it would have been something else that pushed this kid over the edge.

The thing with addiction is that if you have the propensity to become easily addicted, that doesn't mean there's a small number of things that you could get addicted to. It could be booze, drugs, sex, working . . . anything. I think if I recall it has something to do with a dopamine feedback loop.

What we should be doing is not blaming drugs (except maybe the ones that anyone could get heavily and easily addicted to), booze, and sex, and treat the disorder.

Of course the only real way to do that in the long-term is to manipulate DNA to remove those genes, but that would of course be evil . . .
