Anyone here prefer playing old games to new? I love them, personally, and I have a tendency to buy old games as a result. I am just wondering if there is anyone else here likes to get back to their gaming roots once in a while, and the first video game that they ever played.

Mine: GBC: Pokemon Yellow XD (My first game ever)
PS1: Crash Bandicoot
Nintendo 64: Goldeneye
Xbox: JetSet Radio Future (JSRF)
PC: Zork

For sure Mariocart snes is still a game I love to play with mates in favour of newer releases. Chrono Trigger Secret of Mana all good to go. I have played smash tv recently again with a mate and its still not lostr any of its charm. Game play for the win!!! Would like to replay the dizzy games an a C64 or complete double dragon again on my old Spectrum ZX plus lol

Every time I return to an old game, I get disapointed... it's sad but my memories of them are always better than the games themselves.

The exception to this is Classic Doom- a mod for Doom 3 that transports the shareware episode of Doom to the Doom 3 engine. Fantastic :D

I've noticed that certian systems (mostly nintendo systems) make a bunch of "classic feel" games which, while not nearly as complex as most modern day titles, seem to have a greater element of fun than the hits of today. Playing New Super Mario Bros on the DS is *awesome*.

Every now and then I plug in the old NES and play FF1, Dragon Warrior and Zelda. They don't take me that long to complete and take me back....*dream sequence*

Did anyone play the Silver Surfer game on the NES? That game was hard as hell.
My roomate was determined to beat it and he was playing it every night for awhile, he finally did though. He didn't use anything but the classic controller either O_O.

I don't play many old games but my favorite game of ALL TIME is still Castlevainia:Symphony Of The Night for the PS1/360. The game was so expansive and the soundtrack was amazing.

Sim City 3000 Unlimited.
And Risk the board game. Like it's supposed to be played. (Whenever I play, the Middle East Territory never falls.)

I constantly revive what old games I have. I also have a bad habit of buying old games that re re-released on newer systems. I think a whole lot of it is that there are so few games that exist just to be fun.
The new games seem to be attempts to always prove that games aren't just for kids and that they are art forms. The only (semi) recent release that I have been able to play all they way through was Bioshock. That's only cause I kept telling myself that I wasn't going to pay that F!ing much for a game and not beat the damned thing.

Our first console was the Atari 2600 and I still play games from that (emulators or GameTap since my old atari bit the dust) Megamania is still one of my favorite mindless diversions, and my 6 year old daughter and I had fun playing the 2600's Boxing, Joust, and Pitfall this last weekend. I even still like the atari tennis more than Sega Superstar Tennis.
I also still love my NES. I spent most of a day a few weeks ago trading back and forth with my daughter playing through the original Legend of Zelda. Also, I was able to still get from the starting point in the dungeon of Wizardry (Mad Overlord) to the Murphy's ghost with my eyes closed. That actually made me proud/sad all at once.
My fiance still loves to play Sonic (1 and 2) but can't stand the 3d versions.
I think my first PC game.. aside from the really awful version of frogger, the '3d' tic tac toe, and monopoly I had when PCs were pretty new, was Commander Keen and ......Castle of the Winds? I got both of those together from a shareware rack at a drug store. I still play them both on occasion, but I had to download them and play them in dosbox.

Oh yes the old games, playing them makes you feel like you´re in a better world somehow (even when playing an awful game -> Silver Surfer)
games I still play a lot are:

DooM & DooM2
Castlevania: SoTN
Super Mario Bros. 1&3
Zelda: OoT
X-COM

oh and Wetrix, anyone played that? Pure brilliant.

I've had a weird recent trend of playing old games... in the last few months I've played Lands of Lore, MOO 2, and just installed Fallout and Fallout 2.

Commander Keen!
It's fun to dig it up from time to time. It's probably also the only game my dad plays.

I honestly can't remember the first game I played. My mom had an Atari in her house from before I was born (I was born just after she turned 18) and I can imagine that Pitfall for Atari could have been the first game I played, as I have some vivid memories of it for some reason. I remember that my parents got a NES when I was really young as well, and at like... the age of 7, I beat SMB3. I've been pretty much a gamer my whole life.

I prefer new games over the old ones, but I still love the old ones. My girlfriend is very much a vintage gamer, liking NES the best, with SNES and Genesis trailing behind.

I think as soon as I get my brother's computer repaired, I'm going to set it up as an emulator machine. Currently I have it hooked up to my TV via HDMI>DVI and I want to get a couple wireless controllers (probably PS2 style, as they suit old and new gaming well) and then get NES, Genesis, SNES, N64 and PSX emulators installed on it. I might even talk my programmer friend into helping me create a Windows Media Center style GUI that I can select the game I want and it will auto launch the emulator/game, as well as look a lot better than having to do it manually.

Abandonia is the nostalgic gamers friend, loads of brilliant stuff on there and doesn't cost you a penny. Much more worthwhile than paying £50 for the latest PS3 title!

Let me see, old games on my PC right now:
Master of Magic (Playable thanks to DOSBox for you Microprose buffs)
System Shock 2 (The updated texture pack on this gave it a new lease on life)
Baldur's Gate 2
Fallout/Fallout 2/Fallout Tactics
Planescape: Torment (I just keep going back because I love the characters)

I bought a Genesis at a yard sale for 3 bucks (complete with CD) and grabbed the following with it. I STILL play these:
Shadowrun
Road Rash
Mutant League Football (KILL THE REFF!!)
