Voice acting - How do I even start?

Hello Escapians! I've been curious about starting voice acting but I have absolutely no idea how the hell you would even begin.

So being the wondrous beacons of greatness and wisdom you all are...

Can you give me the low down on the basics of starting voice acting?

Get in touch with a community. Try the forums of something like the Skywind mod on morroblivion.com:

That thread has some instructions in so you can try recording a few lines. Use a good-quality microphone with one of those windscreens or filters to help keep the voice quality consistent and avoid the usual problems like 'windy' sound from blowing on the microphone or speaking too close. Basically, you have to start somewhere and mods like that are always in need of people to voice characters. Might as well get a bit of experience in. It also helps to try and visualise the room and situation that your character would be standing in as they speak - who or what they are facing and how they would be expected to react to it, etc.
