Voice acting killed Final Fantasy

Liking FF 7-9? Gasp I hear nostalgia calling in him. I mean really. Voice Actors have little to do with liking a game. Sure if they were annoying I'd give you that. But I think they were decent.

I blame nostalgia for his post.

FFX, FFX-2, FFXII, Were all decent games. Even FFXIII is good, people just see the linear gameplay thats not accustomed to Final Fantasy Games, and disapprove of the game just like that. Fanboys will be fanboys.

Voices were fine, I have no clue where you got the idea to blame them for the story. The just say what the writers want them to say. If anything blame the writers.

I'd say FF7 did more harm overall than voice acting, even if the game was good.

If it wasn't for the popularity of FF7 among the new fans of the series we wouldn't have that punch in the dick known as Final Fantasy 8.

I think the style change hurt it like a half brick to the skull then it woke up a nymphomaniac after a coma and started sucking any cock it could. The original art style was, well, original, interesting and cool. Then the new guy came along and turned it into generic anime shit where everyone wears too much leather strung together by belts and zippers.

It's not the fact that its to much its the fact that guys wear almost less then the girls, and it hard to tell the genders apart in the new ones.

X had Tara Strong who is my favourite female voice actor... James Arnold Taylor is also quite impressive and talented too, so I wouldn't solely blame them.
I don't like Vanille's constant sex noises though...

FFX's voice acting was not that bad despite a lot of really bad writing in some parts. FFXII was... oh my god so awful. The characters all sounded like they were in some sort of tube or something and the voices seemed detached from the characters. Not to mention there was no character development or much useful dialogue to speak of. FFXIII, so far it hasn't been too bad IMO. Vanille's voice annoyed the crap out of me at first. All the other characters are pretty solid.

While I don't agree even slightly that FF has been 'killed' (XIII blew me away), I do agree that the addition of voice acting has been a flaw rather than a bonus. It's like reading a book compared to watching a film; when you read a book the voices are what you make them, and even cheesy lines (of which FF has more than a few) can sound okay in your own head with enough imagination.

The thing about FFXIII that killed it was the fact that you were healed after every bloody battle so there was little to no strategy because you could either sit there, planning attacks and come out with 100% or just auto-battle, come out with 50% health and then be healed.

I have to admit, Vanille and Fang's Australian accents really make me cringe while playing FF XIII, and I am Australian. Fang's is by far worse though since it's an American actress trying to do an Aussie accent and failing at it miserably. I would however be interesting in playing FF VII again with full voice acting.

and did you notice sentinel fang's Kath and kim impersonation where she goes "look at me"? up until then I thought they were supposed to be kiwi's

I know a lot of people feel the same way I do about the quality of recent FF releases. 7-9 are 3 of my favorite games ever, with awesome charactors, story and everything else, with enough variation between them to make each one uniquely special.

Then 10 came, which was ok, although everything seemed slighty worse, the charactors wern't as good, story was worse, and the plot and gameplay were annoyingly linear.

12 had the most boring one dimentional charactors ever, with an equily dull story to boot. They added some nice extra bits, and it wasn't as linear as 10, but I just didn't care. Without a compelling story or charactors it felt so empty.

And now 13, which I think Yahtzee nailed in his review. Exept Sazh, all the charactors were annoyingly smug and whiney, and everything just so damn linear.

Anyway, I'm gonna go ahead and blame voice actors above all, for filling everything with annoying phrases like "Heros don't back down!", and generally making everyone annoyingly optomistic and stereotypical. At least I could charactorise them myself without, but now they just take on the ultra bland persona projected by the voice actors, reciting optimistic phrases, and exactly filling the stereotypes I'm trying to imagine they arn't.

I didn't notice that actually. I tend to tune out their stupid battle cries, with the exception of Snow yelling "Back off!" and Vanille's stupid moans while she casts magic.

If you honestly have, then there is no way you can say that it has a better story quality and character depth. FFX and above just look prettier compared to their predecessors, but their quality as FF has gone down the drain.
