@ Fifth: Put things you are uncertain about, or out of character commentary in Spoilers like this one. Quote me to see how you make them. Putting things in brackets would be akin to your character saying something under their breath.

@ Chargin': You said you wanted to run into me and then talk, so here's your chance, I already described how I departed the bridge. Either you run into me and describe what you had in mind to discuss, or give narrative admission that you don't find me and we both go to bed. Either way this RP is constrained to the pace you and/or Skarin dictate for now.

"Very well then, standby for further instructions!" James replied to the Helmsman.

He paused for a second to stoke his beard before beginning to pace the bridge, occasionally stopping to stare off into the distance, eyes lost in deep thought. Suddenly James spun around and made for the SONAR instrumentation, he hunched over the screen and began studying the numbers and the oceanographic layout of the seabed for a few minutes before resuming his pacing again.

"Alright, I have it!" he exclaimed finally to the crew. "This bucket is giving all it's got in terms of speed but we have hardly scratched it's limits in depth. What depth are we at now?...80 meters?..that's just below periscope depth!" he began with a slight smile forming at his lips.

"I've checked the SONAR, we have a clear running seabed depth of about 3900m for the next 150 nautical miles. So we have no obstructions down below. So what say we conduct some depth tests?" the Commander rubbed his hands together with anticipation.

"Helmsman!, maintain our current course and speed, Trim!, take us to deep sea depth; set trim to 2000 meters. Everyone, keep an eye and ear out for pressure variations on the hull"

Commander Tyrrel looked at the crew on the bridge, "Let it begin then, our first deep sea test!. Who knows, we might even pass a giant squid?" he added with a chuckle.

@ Fifth: I have no idea either, it just sounds good. :D
From the original specs of the ship provided by Anarch it is said that the ships max speed is 37 knots.

@ Anarch: Hope the depth change doesn't interfere with your plans. If it does, PM me and I'll change it to something else.

On the bridge, a small clock chimed as the hour passed.
Harry stood up from his chair, turned and saluted the Commander.

"Permission to leave the bridge, sir?" He requested.
"Granted, sonny. Go and get some rest."

Harry unwound the door lock, stepped through and began the long walk down to his cabin. He passed a few members of the nightwatch on their rounds, before finally reaching his cabin.

The sign on the door read 'Blake, H'. His father would be proud, God rest his soul. As Harry sank into his bunk, he remembered the last this his father had said before he left for the Great War:

"Son, don't rest unless you've given your best. Reach for the top, second place is not enough..."

Arthur yawned, he had heard one of the soldiers mention something about a depth test and he was going to stay up and see it, but it was late and he was sure he wouldn't see much anyway.
So off he wandered to his quarters for bed.

"Certainly. Down on J Deck, the spares Barracks- why weren't you in a proper bed to begin with?"

Night to the world, unchanging light to the sea. The Ulysses pushed forward, displacing grand but comparatively minuscule tonnages of water. Life aboard the Ulysses murmured to a minimal 'nnn' of the small AC lights, the drone of the large motors of the engine room, and few recalcitrant voices defying the silence with bedside and bedtop whispers aside from those few who were still awake, manning the night shift.
Hours passed, the Ulysses continuously slipped forward through the liquid black. Early in the morning small voices and lighter still footsteps issued cooks going from their quarters to the kitchen to begin preparing a hearty breakfast for three hundred men and women. A buzz heard from the Captain's room.
"4 o'clock. Good time as of any to start the day... hmm.. this bed is actually quite nice." Thought he, as he got up. He dressed and walked out into the hall, neglecting his boots for simply socks. An officer passed by carrying a large bowl of oranges, chef's toque atop his head. He stopped and looked perpendicular to the direction that he was walking.
"GOOD MORNING, SIR!"
"As you were."
"AYE AYE, SIR."
He continued on his way.
. . . . . . . . "Pheesh! We're all going to go insane if everyone is going to be this uptight for the next three months. I need to do something about the formal atmosphere, before somebody snaps.."
He went back inside, casting a small forlorn glace at his shoes before looking at his uniform dress boots. He looked back at the shoes. Then the boots. "The trials of a captain." he humored to himself.
The shoes fit comfortably, in their casual running type fashion, and he departed the room heading towards the kitchen, not before entering his captain's log.
The chefs were already quite busy, bustling about stirring this, melting that, frying other, with a tremendous amount of noise and steam. They already had been for the past hour. The shouting from many of them wasn't angry, not even slightly frustrated; it emanated with delicacy, happiness and dedication. Even though these men and women were navy officers and working at attention, they were loving what they did and enjoyed every second of it. One caught sight of the Captain, standing at the door, peering with curiosity and intrigue.
"Good Morning, Captain!" he said.
The clinking and scraping of tools and utensils quickly stopped, all eyes on his person, movement only registered by what was absolutely mandatory. A pan seemingly caught on fire, issuing one Chef to look away and return his attention to cookery.
"Good morning, my cuisine artists."
The pleasant casual addressment caught many of them off guard.
"I am very thankful for your service and I must indicate that today is a special occasion. Would you please ensure that the breakfast is as to fit its celebratory nature?"
One of the chefs stepped forward, hat most erect of them all. He recognized him, this Sous Chef, drafted into the Ottoman Navy after serving for many years in a popular high-class restaurant. He had probably seen more authoritive figures than the captain had, but definitely had more years.
"What is the occasion, Captain?"
"Navy Day. I declare that we will celebrate our positions in the world."
"Certainly, sir."
For a moment nothing happened, both the Captain and the group adorned in clean white awaiting a response from the other.
"Excellent, as you were, gentlemen."
Work erupted back into its regular complexity in less than seconds. The atmosphere seemed more jovial this time. The captain began his walk back to the bridge.
  • Captain's Log- Columbian Waters ~ August 2nd, 1942~4:03am
Delightful sleep. Engines are a nice touch to the ambient noise.
    To do:
    • Eat breakfast
      "loosen the team up"
find something swell at the bottom of the ocean

Sorry this went for so long without update, guys. I don't know what to do when the Creative Juices stop flowing for a stint.

To Late-comers awaiting the opportunity to join: Users in military positions, go ahead and act as if you're always been here, in same fashion as every one else. It is roughly 4 am, breakfast is at 6:30 sharp.

To Lichowlevy: you will be joining very soon. Sorry this is taking so long.

UNderwater, there is Active Radar, which emits an audible ping in all directions, and listens for a response. This maps the ocean, but also shouts to anyone and everyone "Here I am".
Passive sonar is basically a super-sensitive specialized microphone for picking up anything.

AM Radio is used to contact the surface world.

<spoiler=OOC>Sorry guys, I'm going to have to bow out. I'm running into issues with the avatar adventure and everything's getting a little crazy as my school gets closer to summer. If it's possible, Anarchemitis, can I leave my character in stasis for a bit? So that if my schedule loosens up I can jump back in?

Then we'll just leave it at the fact that they're doing whatever aboard, and that no one will conspicuously address them.

Adalwolf woke up a while ago. He got out of bed and got dressed, then went down to the engine room to inspect the submarine's mechanics. He looked carefully and methodically, optimising every part he found to be badly made and in disrepair. He pressed his hand to the engine, leaving a hand print in the dust.

He nodded, disgusted by the incompetence of these engineers. "Huh! Finest engineers in the world. Really. They couldn't repair a compass, let alone an engine on Herr Captain's ship." He mutterd to himself. "Hm... What time is it?"

He took out his pocket watch and checked the time. "2 hours to Breakfeast. Right. Enough time to repair one mein engines." He flipped open the engine cover and began to work in it, his hands soon dirty and covered in oil.

"AHHH!", screamed John. He awoke shaking and covered in sweat from his dream. He dreaded thinking about it again, but it was stuck in his mind. He was in the submarine, doing his job, when suddenly the submarine began to fall. The submarine ran out of oxygen, and John felt suffocated, then the submarine crashed against the bottom of the ocean, with no hope remaining. As he gasped for his last breath, a tentacle grabbed him and took him to the water. There he stood face to face with a giant squid, about to eat him.

"Whew. Good thing it was a dream." John looked at the clock and saw it was 4:35. He put on his equipment, and walked down the empty of the halls of the submarine again. He felt a strange quiet and heard the calm rumbling of the engines. John walked down to the hull, and examined the pipes and machinery of the submarine. "Boring as usual", remarked John. He remembered that breakfast was at 6:30, so he still had time. He fixed the pipes and slowly descended down the narrow hallways of this gigantic leviathan.

He felt so lowly compared to the submarine, and every once in a while, he saw an early worker moving about, complaining about their job. John casually struted across everyone, without saying a single hello, and didn't get one back. It was clear everyone was very sleepy and tired. John felt tired also, and tried to stay awake, but the work done on this submarine kept him awake, so he slumped up against the wall of the submarine, taking a nap. "Someone will wake me up.", said John.
