basicly every time i try to fix a computer (for some reason people think no life and spending all my time playing on steam = computer expert) i just try what looks like it'd work and surprisingly it usually works. people don't even try to use a computer if they know someone who uses one.

This happened just the other day, on Final Fantasy XIII.
Fang's strength + Hope's various synergist boosties = Hitting maximum damage about 2/3 of the way through the main story.

Sorry Lightning and Sazh, but you're off the team on account of sucking so much.

the final boss in dragon age origins beaten extremely easily by fireing a ballista at his face
did not think Bioware would really make it THAT easy
what ballista?

on a related note,
i beat the final boss by getting morrigan to stand near the edge of the tower and keep casting the big blizzard spell, the grunts didn't notice me and the dragon just sat there and let me kill it.

same for morrigans quest where you kill her mother, get zevran to stand at the edge of the lake on the other side from the dragon, over coarse of 15 mins he killed her with arrows from a low level bow.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.
There is a part where you are shown The End being wheeled into a building by Eva. I was playing on Extreme so I was NOT looking forward to the battle of attrition involved in The End's fight, so I took a shot with my sniper and hit him. He exploded and I only had to fight some Ocelot guys where The End was supposed to be.
Now, this was before I got the guide and I hate reading online before beating a game (just to get everything I may have missed after a couple playthroughs on my own), so when he blew up I had a massive "Holy crap that actually worked!" moment.
Then I got the guide and saw that it was nothing special... But at least I was able to enjoy my bubble for a while before it was cruelly burst.

The TF2 taunt kills made me cock my head when i got my 1st kill. That and the fact in bioshock if you had the big daddie suit and go back to the other places of rapture, the splicers dont attack you.

there are two ballistas one either side of the roof
using those you can fire arrows at the archdemon from a safe distance that stuns it as well as taking damage down
even when it flys to the platform you can still hit it
and it cant do anything about it i feel like im cheating everytime i do it

Using a deku stick to burn down the webbing in the first dungeon of OOT. Games just did not do that at the time.

I remember once in multiplayer mode in Killzone (the PS2 version) I decided to hold on the grenade and try to kamikaze myself with 3 enemies.. it work... only once though....

there are plenty more of those, but I just can't remember right now (I'll add more eventually I guess)
1st edit: Not a strategy that made that effect, but, my friend was playing "I wanna be this guy" and kept dying at the same spot when the music switch to ghost and goblins, so I just kept watching him, then decided to ask if I could try, he said sure, those are the buttons, and after watching him for so long, I actually cleared that part, many laughs were had, even more when I got crushed by a tombstone for removing my hands from the keyboard in amazement.

They give you an IFV to do it with, but for laughs I decided to use a PLAV helicopter, and carry the ambulance to the settlement.

It worked. Spectacularly.
That is fantastic.

I was playing on the HL2 multiplayer modification Zombie Panic! Source as a zombie in some boring custom map. I had spawned on top of a pillar with a bunch of barrels around me and couldn't really be bothered finding and running after the human team so I just attacked (the players have a shove attack for building and destroying barricades) a random barrel and it fell off the pillar and hit a human player on the head, killing him instantly.

There was some guy in MW2 running around with a shot gun and a riot shield and ruining everyone's day, I ran up to him and saw him in the distance from behind. Without thinking or attempting to aim I shot a grenade at him, it arced perfectly and hit him directly.

Playing through Gears 2 on insane, reavers were alway's a pain in the neck but I found that if you found cover standing up (such as against a wall or a van) instead of crouching, you could just use your lancer and blind fire in their general direction. Kills them pretty easily.

I had loads of these sort of moments while playing Scribblenauts.

My favourite was when you have to protect a giant from a mob of angry villagers.

Summon shrink ray.
Hit giant with shrink ray.
Shrinks to human size.
Villagers no longer want to attack him.
I win!
Is nice, congratulations.
OT: FF: CC: Crystal Bearers. I threw a (monster)bomb into the water as it was about to explode and problem solved.

I say that phrase a lot at work. I try to MacGyver my way out of issues that rise, and 7 times out of ten, my improvised solution works (if only temporarily until we can fix it properly).

I found that six proximity mines clumped relatively close together, and then a crossbow bolt to get the Big Daddy angry enough to charge, will actually kill those buggers. I wasn't sure it would work, but when he hit the mines, he went flying and I went "Holy shit, that actually fucking worked!"

The last boss of Resident Evil 5 in his final form can be killed almost instantly with a QTE.

I found this out on my 15th or so playthrough. Up until then I have no idea how I've been winning!

In the "Master Quest" of Ocarina of Time (stay away from that game!),

At one point you enter this room in the Spirit Temple. In said room, there is nothing but two doors, a small chest, a beam of light coming from a wall and one of those little sun icons that you have to shine to get something good to happen.
Clearly, I have to get one of the doors to activate. Hur hur, easier said then done unfortunately.
Now, I don't have the Mirror Shield which I am supposed to acquire in this temple yet, so I'm forced to use the only other interactive item in the room, the chest. I open it up, hoping to find a key for one of the locked doors. Is that what I found? Neoooo.
Instead I get a trap that froze me in place.
>.<

What to do?
I circled the room, hitting every wall with my sword, scanning the ceiling for switches I could shoot, exploding the floor randomly.
Then, I decided to take out my hammer and try some experimenting.
That's when I heard the magic Zelda chime. Guess what. I unlocked the door by hitting the open chest with a hammer for no particular reason.
Who is supposed to guess that?! Rage.

Hugging super mutants with rocket launchers and letting the splash damage from the rock kill the mutants. Don't try without power armor.

Call of cthulhu; dark corners.
End boss, deafening, wait what?
