Anyone here who watches UK television will have undoubtedly seen the numerous adverts for the next series of Britain's Next Top ***** Model. And in that advert, a particular song is used, a song that was recently released by UK alternative rock group Band Of Skulls. Have a listen to it:

Now, when I first heard this song and didn't know who it was by, I thought it was a new release from one of Jack White's many projects, particularly The Dead Weather. So looking it up to listen to it just now, on Youtube, I was surprised to find it was a completely different band. Seriously, listen to the vocals and tell me that does not sound like Jack White. Because you'll be lying.

So anyway, the whole point of this thread is for you to share similar stories. Have you ever come across something you thought you recognised only to find it's completely different to what you expected?

Also, who else agrees with me, the girl in that band is pretty hot?

OOo tough question there. I do it when I hear sound effects in games once in a while. I swear that companies share the sound files or something.

Also, I guess it could pertain to threads in forums. Ill see the subject title, and the thread will be about something completely different.

I always confuse Bill Pullman with Bill Paxton and Catherine O'Hara with Meryl Streep. I was shocked to find out that it wasn't Streep in Home Alone when I watched it again a few months ago.

I was sitting a mock graphics exam, when I heard a combine radio noise right next to me.

Totally freaked me out.

Turns out our school grounds-keepers use radios with the exact same noise as in Half-Life 2.

You'd better keep an eye on those groundskeepers, they may be paving the way for the Combine invasion as we speak...

They wouldn't get far: Our vice principal could kick an invasion's ass. He literally chases chavs off site/campus in a suit

Hooooooold on just a cotton-picking second... you have a vice-principal, yet you're in the UK? You don't happen to go to an Academy, do you? (shudders)

My brother went to one after his old school was changed to one. It was run more like a business than a school. Glad he's in Sixth Form now, another year at that place would have completely screwed his academic life up...

Can't remember what song it was but I once heard a song by some pop singer on the radio and the intro to the song sounded exactly like a song I really like.

Where's admiral ackbar when you need him, the rest of the song sucked.

One part of the soundtrack of Avatar was a piece of music I just knew I'd heard somewhere else before, and in fact that occupied my mind for quite a while when watching that scene. Don't remember where it was though, I believe it was when the tree got blown up, not sure though.

Also, lots of movies/shows/anything seem to use the JP sound effects for their monsters(not just dinosaurs).

I was sure this was Björk the first time I heard this (and for quite a while after until I found out who it really was by)

Hmmmm, that may have been that Madonna song, can't remember the name, but there's a Madonna song where she literally stole half the opening melody from something else (I think it was a Queen song she stole the opening from, though I'm probably mistaken). Of course, I'm no big fan of Madonna anyway (and a massive fan of Queen :D)...

Yup happened to me last week, I heard this song in the trailer for some video

<youtube=3WnmNvbomQE>

and me being cocky I decided to incorrectly let everyone know that the band playing the song is a band called The Script. Why? Because they are an Irish band, and while I didn't know that particular song, I was certain that it was them and wanted to give them some free publicity. Turns out it wasn't The Script at all, and is actually some famous American dude I have never heard of who sound the exact same as them. Take a listen to The Script and see if you think they sound similar.

Weird, that sound almost exactly like my deputy head, is your guy sweaty?

OT: There are a couple of songs that sound identical for the first few bars, but none jump to mind right now.

Ever played Silent Hill 3?

Remember the little gray rotting things that try to headbutt you to death (the Numb Bodies)?

Remember the sound they make? (Buh-WAAAAH)

My friend makes those sounds when he has nightmares.

Worst. Sleepover. Evar.

It's not an academy; he probably just likes having 'prince' in his title.

The school letters have a 'wait, this isn't...' kind of air to them. Terrible spellings, weird grammar and a bit at the bottom saying "yours sincerely, Mrs ******, head of English."
Standard response: "What English? I see only gibberish."

The Australian band Tame Impala, I swore they were the Swedish band Dungen when I heard them...

Like have they ever been seen in the same room together?

Honestly, I didn't hear Jack White in that voice until you said that just now. I thought it was some generic, indie rock band with incredibly mediocre vocals.

Okay, listening again I can hear where you're coming from. But Jack can sing, for a start. And is less annoying. Sometimes. He also has a much better sense of how to use a guitar, that was incredibly dull.

Anyway, for me it was when I heard the smarmy Englishman in Assassin's Creed 2. I could have sworn it was Ricky Gervais doing it, the voice is practically identical right down to the sarcasm!
