This thread isn't about identity theft, that is an entirely different thing that I don't want to see brought up in this thread.
To the best of my knowlege, and 5 minutes of searching, this thread hasn't been done before. If I am wrong though, I am sorry.

Now, on to the actual topic: how do you react when you see someone with the same name as you?
The context can be anything: a real person, an npc, a player's chosen name, etc. I am really not picky. Please say what the context is though, since that is somewhat important.
Confused? Well here are some examples of what I mean:
1. When I still played WoW, picking a name was sometimes a hastle. I'd have a name in mind, enter it, but it'd be taken. Sometimes I'd have to resort to my third or sixth choice, or be a bastard and use alt-code characters. I always found it slightly weird that there was another person(s) in the world who thought of naming their toon Torrasque, or Gargauth. I guess they interact with the same media I do.
2. Whenever I do a google search of my IRL name, it always weirds me out to find someone that has the exact same name as me. First names are pretty damn common, especially when your name is shared by >5% of European royalty. Last names are slightly less common, but considering I went to elementary with a girl with my last name, who had absolutely no relation to me, I am not so weirded out by it. Combinations of the two are exceedingly rare, but they exist =|. I have seen one person on facebook who literally has the exact same name as me... Thats super weird o_o
3. Its not often to see an NPC with a last name, but they do exist; usually in RPGs. A friend of mine shares his first and last name with a character from a popular RPG, Final Fantasy IIV. No, his name isn't Cloud Strife, that'd be hilarious. His name is Vincent Valentine, lol. The best part: he's a lanky blonde haired guy that listens to underground rap, and hates RPGs.

So my fellow Escapists, whats it like to share your name(s) with someone else?
Please list any and all examples :D
Also, if this has never happened to you, don't worry. It will.

I liked the system in Champions Online where your account name was unique, but your character could have the same name as other people. Eliminated having all these "xxxB@manxxx"s everywhere.

I have a slightly unusual first name (I've met one other person with it) and a decidedly unusual last name (hint: It's a bird!). I've only met one person with my last name (we were both really weirded out).

Online, it never happens. Maybe I'm too self-deprecating?

OT: I always like other people with my first name. No one has my last name.

In games, I like to be original. Don't like others with similar tag.
I agree, I am the same way.
I always go for names that no one has. In WoW, I was surprised Torrasque wasn't taken when I joined, yet it was stupidly common by the time I left.
The only time I was unyielding in my name choice, and resorted to gay alt-code letters, was for a tribute toon.

As far as I'm aware only about 3 other people in the world share both first and last name with myself and I sadly have never met them.

As far as first name goes I don't really freak out it's one of the most common names you can have.

I have yet to meet someone with my classified first name. I do share my last name with a famous actor but sadly we're not related.

It always weirds me out but it makes me slightly proud at the same time.
A certain X-Men villain shares my first name and another my last name so I always get a kick when they talk to each other.

Well on the WoW front, I know some names are flagged before they even open up a server to avoid copyrights and other companies IP's, so that might be why they blocked Gargauth from being used as a name. But Tarrasque and it's versions are from a mythological french turtle dragon monster thing, maybe other people have heard of it.

Yeah, i dont find people with my last name. Its rather unique (since immigrations fucked it up when my family got off the boat way back when).

I do find a lot of people that look like me, and once went to a walgreens to fill a perscription and when I gave them my name and birthdate they asked if my name was Cody.

Apparently there is a peron with my last name, birthday (month day year exactly) named Cody, who ive never met and no one in my family has any idea who he is (though he may be one of the black sheep of the family's kids. we dont associate with... Those people.... anymore).

Gargauth was never taken, its just an example I used.
Lights was taken, so I had to use a disgusting alt i for the i.
It did prevent people from spamming me though.

Should have just done what i did when I played wow, found a name I liked that was pretty unique and make it on EVERY SERVER THAT EXISTS!!! just so no one else will have it.

Given there was only around 250 people at my school, it was a bit of surprise to find there was someone in the year above me with the exact same name, including my middle name. Used to always be getting called to the school office for stuff that was his fault.

I generally have no real reaction to people with the same name as me, the exception being seeing a tombstone with my exact name on it. Now that is weird.

Both my first and last name are very common in the US. I do think about getting my name changed every now and then.

My first name is fairly common, though I have an more unusual spelling. My last name is ridiculously common, so other people with the same first and last name as me are actually fairly common. Another Rachael Hill, it turns out, went to my same optometrist. That caused some ah... complications.

The most weird example though is that a girl named Rachael Hill was killed in the V-Tech shootings. Out of curiosity I googled my name awhile back and found that. It was a little freaky.

lol, the main reason I was surprised Torrasque wasn't taken.
A friend of mine joined WoW with the release of Cata, and actually got the name Silmarillion. I was surprised it wasn't taken =|

I share my full name with an MMA fighter. Not a good one either. he is also my height, weight and similar body type...It's kind of eerie, it's like the douchey jock version of myself from another dimension
