A Hermit's Cave
I seem to recall that Powys has the highest frequency of idiotic police call outs: vampires; witches; zombies; and aliens.

Russell Kane: You'd really wonder why any alien would wish to invade Wales, they'd have a hard time pronouncing the place names. 'People of Lla... *ahem* People of Lla... oh sod it, let's go to England!'

It's hard to compete against Scotland and Ireland. They usually hog all the attention. Wales has always been a quiet place, a little like Scotland but without William Wallace and a score of successful independence battles.

As an Englishman, I can honestly say that Wales is my favourite third world country.

Ah, in all honesty, one of my best friends is Welsh (so I can't ever be racist, derp), and the poor guy gets a huge amount of stick for it. They're even lower than the Irish in the pecking order of acceptable targets for making un-pc jokes at.

Wales is a nice place, but an easy target for jokes i'm afraid. I find it's language interesting because it's so bloody strange.

I have a welsh name, so I guess out of association I try to avoid making judgements based on stereotypical preconceptions. Been there a couple of times and really doesn't seem anything out of the ordinary, then again I went to Cardiff and I think really wherever you go major cities in a country all seem to uphold a certain standard of quality.

I love the Welsh. They can take a joke just like Scots. Having said that, Welsh is a funny old language to listen to :)

I'm aware of Wales (and American). Most of what I know I learned from Torchwood. While it's a sci-fi show, it does show some of Wales and culture thereof.

I am happy to say I can tell the difference between a Welsh accent and a London/Britian one now (this is big for me since they all sounded alike when I started watching British shows).

I think it's a lovely place that I wish I could visit some day.

My last name is English but my greatgrandfather on the paternal line emigrated from Wales.

I hear there is good mountain biking there. Would like to hike the Snowdonia mountains someday. I remember that's where they filmed Dragonslayer.

I remember from grade school they have a dish called Welsh rabbit which has something to do with toast, cheese, and beer--I asked mom to make it once and it was okay.

Other than that, it's rural England, and princes like to go there, or sumpthin'.

Aww, but it just isn't English culture without making fun of the Welsh. and French. and Americans. and most other British people.
Actually, now I think of it, we pretty much hate everyone.
And truth be told, Everyone hates England too. It is amazing how it works like that, don't you think?

Alright, let's test these Internationals some Welshicana.
What is the longest place name in Wales (Maybe even the world)?
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch

:)
Fuck. me.
Is it true that if you pronounce it correctly a talking unicorn appears and grants you a wish?
Or that it is, in fact impossible to pronounce without suffocating first?

so i'm curious do other countries like america or canada know of wales and if so what is the conception you have of my country. also plz english people dont put up any sheep-shagger jokes i just want to know what the view of wales is in forign lands.
im from wales! live in england though where lets be honest, is much better. and your just inviting negative comments by going straight on the defensive with "also plz english people dont put up any sheep-shagger jokes" do you dislike english people or something? one of the reasons i left wales is because i started to get a bit uncomfortable with the unfocused hatred for england

can i just ask, one welshmen to another. do you actualy know why you have english people? if you honestly dont hate then thats cool my bad, but i have lived most of my life (except last 3 years) in wales and everyone hates england, but for no logical reason! maybe because many many hundreds of years ago wales was pwned in a war with england. still too soon?

Unfortunately no unicorns :( but it is possible to say without suffocating :) You can kind of split it up into 3 separate parts
Llanfairpwllgwyngyll-gogerychwyrndrobwll-llantysiliogogogoch

It roughly translates to : Saint Mary's Church in the hollow of the white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and the Church of St. Tysilio of the red cave

Our contribution to world cuisine is welsh rarebit (not welsh rabbit). It's cheese on toast. That's it. However, we do produce many, many singers. As for the language, it's more or less phonetic. Provided you know the alphabet, it's easier to learn than English because it doesn't have silent letters and different words for the same thing.

I too am from Aberystwyth (not the Uni, but I do live in the town) and I agree it is a lovely place and is very scenic.
Recently I visited New York and when the locals were to ask where I was from i told them Wales.... I got Either one of these two replies:

1: "Oh yeah I know that state"
2: "So you're from England?"

Its not really a hugely bad thing, being the country in Britain nobody has heard of is also a curse but at the same time it is a blessing as if others have never heard of the country I noticed that they find it harder to hate us

I've been there a few times. They have amusing accents and lots of mountains. It's a nice place.

No offense but I hear its not the most educated place in all the kingdom....
Not really, average grades are lower overall in Welsh schools than in English ones, but there are far more schools in England and there is a £600 funding gap per pupil between Wales and England. Cardiff University medical school is also one of the best places to study medicine in Britain.
