It's not every day that a developer asks you for your unborn child. Taking a page out of Rumpelstiltskin, I bet.

Of course, after this, you'll have to kill the kid simply to make his life easier. Because going through life as "Dovahkiin" might either make him a serial killer or someone who never leaves the house. Either way, it would just be better for everyone.

Totally not worth ruining someones childhood lol.
Don't really see where the ruining comes in though, there are odder, weirder and more offensive names out there. Dovahkiin is pretty dull in comparison and hardly going to elicit either childhood trauma or inexplicable bulling. : /

As if they'd know that. By the time he's (or she) is in school, the game will already have been out for a number of years, forgotten, and the name merely a funny story to tell, if indeed the child even chooses to tell anyone the origin of their name.

This is grossly irresponsible. I can't believe Bethesda would be so conceited as to ruin some poor kid's life just to gratify their own grotesque egos. I hope nobody does this. I hope no one even tries. I mean, people who are into RPG's have to be smarter than this, right?
Read the disclaimer.

You know, it's not even a bad name... if only. Anyone fancy lending a guy in need some rohypnol?

once you win the prize just change their name when they turn 5 and call them by a different name before that.

I think someone might just take up this challenge.

I mean, to me, Dovahkiin just looks like a foreign name from a different country (Sweden springs to mind for some reason). I just have a weird feeling that someone will actually do this.
I assure you, it is not in any way swedish.

Bethesda's disclaimer is hilarious.

They know people will not stop to get free games (and for life!), so they're seeing the boundaries of it...

Okay, we've got about 9 months (coincidence?) until that day.
Who wants to team up?
Yes, I'm kidding.

Yeah, not worth it.
Getting punched in the mouth is a better prize.

In fact, I hereby promise that I will punch anyone in the mouth who ruins their kid's life like that because they're such a fucking nerd.

I respect Bethesda for adding the disclaimer which basically says "we're just trying to be funny, no really, you're a total douche if you do this."

The disclaimer isn't going to change anything. Bethesda is just covering its ass.

"Disclaimer: Any reward for completing this quest will not ultimately justify the potential teasing your child could ? and probably will ? endure over its lifespan. Bethesda Softworks is not responsible for your parenting. You may gain experience points for completing this quest, but you will not care at 3am on a work night. Completion of this quest may also result in decreased desire to play video games and/or function as a human being. Consult with your friends before embarking on this quest; while it may not start in prison, it probably ends there."

It's pretty obvious that Bethesda don't expect people to do this. It's a joke. Sure, there's a reward if you do, but Bethesda have made it clear that it's a highly moronic thing to do.

Danm too late. Unless I impregnate a woman tomorow and the child is born premature I don't have a chance.

The sad thing to me is that all this is going to overshadow Remembrance Day (Commonwealth Veteran's Day) this year. That's how I'm remembering when Skyrim is coming out, it's Remembrance Day. Just like Modern Warfare 2 did.

As if having Remembrance Day be your birthday wasn't depressing enough, now you get to find out you're name is Dovahkiin because your dad wanted some free videogames.

That won't stop people from doing it. You know it, I know it, and Bethesda knows it.

A few complete morons might do it, but that's only going to be the kind of person who would give them a weird name any way. I doubt that anone who would read this, and the disclaimer, and do it anyway would be a decent parent.

Besides, I think you're exaggerating the effects that this will have. I knew a kid called 'Rohan Rivendell XXX' when I was younger, and no one gave them much shit, only 'Really?'. Bullies in general tend not to be into their fantasy.
