Dear Escapees,

In the past couple of months I've done research on educational games and how best to implement them. For this research we reached for the skies, trying to find out if you can teach any subject to a mildly interested group. Since you people all have a strong opinion on games and what they should be, I want to ask you the following:

Want to help me with my scientific research on educational games?

It might take half an hour to an hour of your time, but I'll make it worth your while. The game will teach you a couple of subjects that are related to software design. (Any aspiring game developers here? Pay attention!) This is what I want to ask you to do:

First, I need to determine your preliminary knowledge with a pre-game survey, found here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dGc5YnBYMGlONkp6ZHNPUEdSTWduSXc6MQ

Next, I'd like to ask you to play the game, which you can download here:
http://aosd.host22.com/AoSD.zip

And the last most important step! After you've played the game, I'd like to ask you to take the post-game survey, so I can determine what you've learned. It does not matter if you finished the game or even liked it, please fill in the post-game survey, since this gives me the most crucial information. You can find it here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/viewform?formkey=dHN2SEI4amxQWWVSbDQwb0RKcWhRbWc6MQ

Playing the game might give you some useful knowledge, but to really make it worth your while even more, I'll publish the results right here on this forum if more than 5 people take the post game survey and fill it in genuinely. My apologies for the over-emphasis on the post-game survey, but so far on other sites I've had 38 people taking the pre-game vs 6 taking the post-game survey. That made me sad.

Thank you in advance for your time.

Edit: fixed the bold fonts

Also: I'll change the caps to bold in this post, once I figure out what script I can use for that.

Minus the spaces, obviously.

I'll be happy to help out, but I'm at work, so I'll try to remember for when I get home.

This website really is a nice place to waste spend time at work.
Also those recent Olympics themed games on the Google Doodles.

I wonder how much productivity the world is loosing on those doodle games?
The Pac-Man doodle apparently cost the world 4.8 million hours of lost time.

What the hell is a Google Doodle? :p

(I'm very bad at the internet, you see. I don't get the memes until a few years after everyone else, by the time I find out some news it's become olds and I only recently found out what a "reddit" is)

It's the word Google uses for whenever they change their logo on the home page.

This is the Pac-man doodle.
http://www.google.com/pacman/

Right now they have Olympics themed games for their logo.

...those things are games?!

I always just thought they were just different, semi-topical pictures!

Nope, most of them are pictures, some of them are games.
The pac-man doodle, for example, you have to click "insert coin" to play.

Thanks! I fixed it.

Also thanks in advance on taking the survey, obviously.

I tried but it kept crashing about 3/4 of the way through. Sorry.
Can you copy/paste the error you got when it did? Also, which puzzle was it in. Another also: Regardless of how the game ended, could you fill in the post-game survey?

I think any game can be educational, in the right circumstances.
Case in point, I learned to read and right correctly, as well as pronouncing certain words properly, through video games.

Ok it's on the interface puzzle, I did everything before that starting left to right, top to bottom. It happens when deleting the little blue link line things, although not every time and it says:

Screenshot: ummm... I tried but for some reason print screen doesn't want to work.

Hmmm... Chrome is flagging the game as malicious. Anyone else having this problem?

I was hindered in the pregame survey by the language barrier. I said no on a couple of terms I knew in Hebrew, but the difference isn't too smashing.

I really enjoyed it, and it really helped me out with a school project of mine from last year which I was just reviewing.

I apologize for giggling at this, but I couldn't help but picture it as some sort of illness that you had proficiently avoided for years.

And OP, I'll take a look! :)

I'm glad we share a common viewpoint, but ehmm... Did you mean "read and write correctly"? If so (or not), go play my game. It's educational. ;) :D

Misspelling the word write in a sentence proclaiming how you can read and write correctly. Thanks, I haven't been this amused about an error since someone told me I need to watch out for those "speeling errors".

It might be because the .zip contains a .exe file. The .exe is the game, there is not much I can do about it. If your virus scan starts beeping, let me know.

Glad I could help. Could you elaborate about what you mean by 'language barrier'? I'm pretty sure everything is in English, but I might have left some Dutch in it.

I had a bad case of the memes as a child, and ever since I've been a little worried about catching it again. It turns you into an awful person, while you're suffering from it all you do is post image macros and old, stale jokes. I advise you get yourself inoculated ASAP!
