I think we can all agree that, no matter what the quality of the game is, that new manual smell is worth all the money the game costs.

...I have problems, don't I?
I found when i played Thief 3 I just couldn't stop smelling the manual, it was just too damn good! Ended up finding excuses to read the manual all the time...

actally i just found the box again *sniff's the curls up in feotal position with manual*
dude, the new manual smell for Gunstar Heroes was the best.

I buy a lot of my games from a small business owner who runs a small private game store- she's always taken care of me by importing stuff and cutting me good deals, so I do my best to support her business in this time where the private retailer is dieing out. When I bought Metroid Prime 2 Echoes she took the box back behind the counter to put the disc in and it wasn't until I got home that I realised she'd given me another copy of Metroid Prime 1 instead. So I took it back, we had a bit of a laugh and I took the real game home. It was irritating, since her store is several train stops away from my home, but I let it go. She's done me enough favours in the past that I wouldn't hold a simple mistake against her.

I was once quite pleased with staff stupidity. I was in asda, and wanted to ge get a game, but it was too expensive, so I got a cheaper one instead. When I got home, I opened the case and inside was the more expensive game that I had wanted. Can't remember what it was, but I was very pleased. :)

True, true. But you know what part of the manual smells the best? THE NOTES SECTION!

You know what's also good for sniffing when you first open them? Collectable card packets, eg. Magic: The Gathering. Never mind that what you're sniffing is a thin coating of varnish, that stuff is pure bliss.

But alas, before too long the smell is always gone.

it must just be engalnd then, but when you walk into a Game store (they are called Game), the shelves are stocked with empty cases, with the cover and a price sticker. you tak it to the counter pay for it, then they give you a shrink-wrap sealed game from the locked cabinet behind the counter, fresh and sealed like a supermarket sandwhich., (though infinitely more appetising)

Pre-owned are a different matter though.

The first time I bought the original Saints' Row the disk wasn't in the case. But I got it at the major national chain retailer where I work part time, so they just gave me a full refund because they didn't have another copy. I wasn't mad at the store, but instead at the little wankers who cracked the case and stole the disc. Stupid punks.

And yes, I realize the irony of having violent thoughts against people who stole what amounts to a thievery and murder simulator.
But without playing the murder simulator, you wouldn't know how to commit the murders!
Jack Thompson told me so.
He lives in my closet.
What.The.Fuck? There is a closet in my closet?!
Dude you don't even know, do you.
It's like Narnia in here. I just got back from repelling Zerg attacking my Middle Ages port town!
I repelled them with fire.
For fucks sake. I knew I had to tidy up there for some time now, but I never imagined it to be THAT bad.
Tomorrow I'll come with the vacuum cleaner.
Nnnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!
You can't! That's like...
That's like...
That's like invading another country and imposing your beliefs and values on it, just like we're doing in Iraq!

Seriously though, keep away. You pitiful vacuum cleaner cannot hold the might that is CLOSET-NARNIA
You cannot withstand the mighty vacuum cleaner!

But I'm open to negotiations. At least kick out Jack Thompson.

Hmmm....while outing someone is pretty uncool, it's just Jack Tho--alright, done.
Ok, that gave you a couple of days until I come up with another demand.

So, my question is, ahve you ever gotten home from a game shop to find the disk not actually in the box, and what sorts of measures of revenge did you extract on the people who sold it to you?
Fairly recently, in fact. Went into the local GAME, picked up a second hand copy of GRAW 2 for a tenner. Plonker behind the counter had only gone and put a GRAW 1 disc in.

Talking about the luxuriant smell of new games and all, On realease day of Halo 3 i went over to my local blockbuster to buy it (because its dead good pricewise, and the people are nice:)), but they didnt have it in stock, just as im about to leave a DHL (I Think) bloke marches in with a whole box of Halo 3's, The guy behind the counter let me pick my own one :D 'Twas almost orgasmic , well not really, for nearly a month

I got the Orange Box from Best Buy, went home and there was no CD key to activate the game. Didn't have to take revenge, called them up and they gave me a new copy, just had to bring back the first one i got.

Hmm.. This has never happened to me, and I find it hard to see how it would happen, since when getting a game from the shelves, and giving it to the bored cashier, the cashier goes and get a new, laminated copy of the game in question...

I bought a copy of NFL street 2 for my xbox from I believe it was E.B. The disk looked fine, but it simply would not run, and kept telling me the disk was dirty, no matter how much I cleaned it. I am still plotting (although they were swallowed up by gamestop)

How do you sleep at night with Jack Thompson in your closet?

gamestop owns eb games..... check the back of the recepit
when did gamestop buyout E.B., because I think I may have bought the game before the buyout happened.

hmm, one guy has Jack Thompson in his closet, another has Steve Gutenberg in his, and another still has Jack Thompson in a closet in his closet. I wonder who is in my closet.
