You could well ask "What would Peach do in a fight? Wait for Mario?". Actually I might be wrong here but I don't think Captain Falcon was a fighter before the Smash Brothers games, but then he made the Falcon Punch famous.

Hey, sonic's only real attack other than the basic punch and kick is to roll into a ball and go speeding off, and it worked.

I think they should have between four to eight characters from each series they include, for example:
Mario, you've got Mario, Peach, Bowser, Luigi, Yoshi, Wario, and then they could add Toad, Waluigi, Daisy etc
Personally (being a huge metal gear fanboy) id like to see Snake, Liquid, Solidus, Raiden, Ocelot, Meryl, Raven etc
