Most of these aren't exclusive Nintendo characters... I just want to play as Waluigi, give him like stretchable arms or something.

i think crash bandicoot really should be there,i mean sure Siarra ruined him when they bought him from mad dog,but crash is still crash,and he competed with mario and sonic at his debut,so he deserves it,id also like to see earthworm jim,lora croft,tazmanian devil,machamp,and dragonite,but thats my opinion

Probably ninja'd, but for me, a Belmont (Simon/Richter) and Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes are both absolute musts. And, less likely, but still possible, I would love to see Terra, or another Nintendo-era Final Fantasy character.

I don't necessarily want all of these characters at once, but they're all ones I'd like to see...
Cecil Harvey(Final Fantasy II/IV) He could be a slightly heavier swordsman like Ike, his attacks are extremely powerful and have a decent range but are slow and damage him a bit. Final Smash turns him into a Palading which makes his attacks heal himself and he's somewhat faster.
Kain Highwind(FFII/IV) What do Link, Ike, Toon Link, Marth etc. have in common? The same damn weapon. Kain could have a longer range with his spear and make a tough aerial and ground-based character. Final smash can be equipping the Holy Lance or something.
Terra Branford(FFIII/VI) Basically an all-rounder magic swordsman. Plus OMG A GURL. Final Smash can be Ultima.
Locke Cole(FFIII/VI) Fast melee character with spells and ranged boomerangs. Final Smash can be Genji Glove/Master Scroll/Quick combo.
Gilgamesh(FFV, etc.) A dual weilding heavy character with a spear and a sword. For his Final Smash... "IT'S TIME WE FIGHT LIKE MEN. AND WOMEN. AND WOMEN WHO DRESS LIKE MEN. FOR GILGAMESH, IT'S MORPHING TIME!" The line still applies to Smash characters, too, thanks to Shiek.
Sigurd(Fire Emblem 4) Spear and Sword character, fairly good all round. Also, one of Sakurai's favourites. Final Smash can throw him on his horse and equip his legendary sword.
Hector(Fire Emblem 7) As already mentioned. He has an axe for christ's sake. His Final Smash can be some awesome attack with Armads or something.
Majora's Mask Link, everything already listed.
Chrono(Chrono Trigger) Fast sword character with ranged lightning attacks. Final Smash pulls in a random party member(bar Magus) and does a combo attack with them.
Magus(Chrono Trigger) Find another Scythe wielder for Smash Bros. who's not Death from Castlevania. He can get dark attacks for his specials and Final Smash.
Soma Cruz(Castlevania AoS/DoS) He could have a lot of things for movesets from the assorted souls, he could also have some gimmick where he gets new attacks after killing other characters.

Yeah... etcetera. I also like the TWEWY and Mario RPG character suggestions. And Knuckles is the best character to put in from Sonic next. Travis Touchdown ftw.

i second the tales of symphonia list offered, and i'd also like to see some more fire emblem stuff brought out. maybe:

soren (path of radiance)
gilliam (sacred stones)
oscar (PoR)
boyd (PoR)
ephraim (SS)
etc...

Isaac (Golden Sun): First, this series deserves some representation here. And, I think that Isaac could be a great "all-arounder." He could use powerful elemental attacks and swift sword attacks.

Isaac was arguably the most generic JRPG character there is. Felix has a little more subtlelty to himself. And he looks a lot better. I support him over Isaac.

Travis Touchdown, as realistically he would be the most suited for this sort of game - wrestling moves make interesting special attacks, and a final smash similar to his random superpowers
Midna and Wolf Link, as the agility and power balance seems to fit the bill of this game well.
Majoras Mask Link (think a much cooler version of Pokemon Trainer)(Final Smash - Fierce Deity mask), as a tribute to, if not the best, then quite certainly the most original Zelda game made.
Liquid Snake, as we need someone who can actually use a Metal Gear as a final smash.
Conker (I think that the position has changed, and Rares properties are likely to be sold back to Nintendo after Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts flops - Ok, I just really want Rare to go back to Nintendo and go back to making great games, is that too much to ask?) because, well, look at the guy. Its one of the most obvious characters there is.
An original version of Ganondorf, because quite frankly, he's getting pathetic.

King Dedede (hes slow but light, his attacks don't work, his final Smash is pretty much a joke)
All Clone Characters apart from Luigi.

Megaman, Banjo, I agree with the Majora's mask link, his Down+b could switch between his masks.
Mewtwo should come back.
An Iron Knuckle, from either the Twilight Princess or Wind Waker games.

Krystal (Star Fox) and Soren (Fire Emblem) are the only ones I really want.

I think they'll both be able to add an actually different fighting style to the mix. Krystal with her staff and Soren with his magic.

I'm with you on Krystal, but I'd like Micaiah instead of Soren. Not that I hate Soren, but Brawl is in serious need of some women who don't really on cooking supplies for weaponry. Ephriam from The Sacred Stones would also be a nice choice, it's a break from all the sword-wielding
Fire Emblem characters.
There's also a whole slew of third-party characters I'd like to see, including Megaman, Professor Layton, Lock (from Lock's Quest, by 5th Cell) and The Swordsman (protagonist from Red Steel 2). Also, the Elite Beat Agents and Phoenix Wright MUST become Assist Trophies.
