WAOA Arena

The Chief was shoved aside somewhat roughly by Ragnar. "What's his problem?"
"Don't know."
"Maybe we should check it out?"
The Chief nodded. Noticing that the man had seemed to draw his equipment from the lockers, the Chief checked one out, finding a veritable armoury inside. After loading up with an assault rifle, a magnum, and several clips and grenades, he followed Ragnar.

 

[Random berk]

Ragnar burst out into the arena, casting his gaze about wildly and trying to pick up sight or scent of Kenna.
"Emperor be praised." He said with a sigh of relief, before slowly coming to a halt. He had spotted the Meta.
"Oh, trollshit."

The Chief followed Ragnar through, arriving just as the Space Marine swore. He looked around, spotting the Meta. He was still for a moment. "Is that another SPARTAN?!"
"I don't know..."

 

[Kirke]

When the two entered the arena, the door behind them slammed shut. The Meta was entirely focused on Ragnar, but then suddenly snapped his attention to the Chief. He approached slowly with weapon ready.

The instant Meta's focus changed, Cortana was assaulted by a barrage of garbled transmissions, drowning out each other. There were also hacking attempts mixed in, seemingly from several sources. All of them were clearly from AI, but something seemed seriously wrong about them.

Ragnar twisted around to see Master Chief enter, recognising the similarities between his armour and Meta's. He swore and fumbled for his helmet.
"I will ask you only once, sky warrior." He said to Chief, and as his face was concealed by the grimacing wolfen death-mask of his helmet, his voice took on the mechanical baritone created by the vox-grille. "Where do your allegiances lie?" He held his bolter and chainswords out on either side, snapping his head back and forth between the Spartans, ready for an attack on both sides.

The Chief activated his external speakers so he could talk to Ragnar. "I'm not looking for a fight. I'm trying to figure out where I am."
Cortana's voice came from his built-in headset, so that Ragnar couldn't hear. "Chief, whoever that SPARTAN-looking guy is, something's wrong with his tech. I detect several AIs in his armour, all of them garbled. Nothing should be able to carry that many units."

 

[Kirke]

The Meta charged forward, launching a series of grenades at Ragnar as he closed the distance to the Chief. When he came close, he slashed at the Chief's midriff.

 

[Random berk]

"Lucky you. It looks like you've found one anyway." Ragnar replied, turning his gaze to the Meta, meaning to keep the more threatening Spartan in his sights. When the Meta charged, Ragnar began to run as well,strafing to the Meta's right and responding to the grenades with a salvo of bolter-fire.

The Chief leapt to the side as the Meta opened fire. When the Meta slashed at him, he leapt back, raising his assault rifle and spraying full-auto at his opponent.

 

[Kirke]

The Meta made a leaping roll to avoid the bolter fire, with a few rounds grazing him and being pushed off by his overshields. The same went for the rifle fire, although the Meta did take a half step back and grunt deeply as the rounds hit his chest. He stepped forward and slashed against the Chief's rifle before following up with a stab against the chest.

Ragnar turned back to see the Meta bear down on the new sky warrior with his grenade launcher. Hefting his chainsword, he fired the engine and marched forward, holstering his bolter so that he could grab the Meta's gorget and drag him back onto the roaring teeth.

ERROR! SETTING NOT CHOSEN! REVERTING TO RANDOM MODE!

" announced the arena speakers as the area suddenly became an icy tundra. Given everyone's massive weight, they would all be in danger of falling through the ice if they weren't careful. Also, there appeared to be a nasty snow storm approaching.

Chief's rifle was gouged by the Meta's blade, but not enough to break it. The following stab made the Chief's shields flare and pop, overloading them and sending him back. He recovered and retreated, taking popshots at the Meta with his rifle. He slipped slightly as the arena shifted to an icy tundra, but kept his footing.

 

[Kirke]

The Meta growled and crouched down, holding his bruteshot as a shield against the Chief's bullets. On his motiontracker he saw Ragnar approaching, and he pulled his magnum out. He opened fire, but not on Ragnar but rather on the ice beneath him.
OoC: The magnum fires large calibre AP rounds that are explosive-tipped. Dangerous on a direct hit.

 

[Random berk]

OOC: Gonna roll a dice for the terrain effect...

Ah, now this is something I could get used to. Ragnar grinned as he saw the tundra materialise around him. His grin promptly disappeared however, as the Meta's bullets shattered the ice beneath his feet and dumped him unceremoniously in the freezing water. Even without his insulating power armour, Ragnar's Fenrisian blood and genetic enhancement would protect him from any severe effects by the cold, and the ice was the surface of a shallow pool rather than a n arctic lake, but it was deep enough to bog him down and spoil his movement. He cursed and snarled as he struggled to climb out, the edges of the ice hole cracking beneath his palms and droping him in the water again.

Master Chief, seeing the Meta was focused elsewhere, took advantage of the distraction. He primed and threw a grenade at the Meta's feet, where it bounced once before exploding right in front of him.

 

[Random berk]

Ragnar gasped in shock seeing the grenade land at the Meta's feet, uncomfortably close to his face. He ducked under the icy water to try and evade the worst of the blast.

 

[Kirke]

As Ragnar crashed through the ice, the Meta turned his attention back to the Chief... Just in time to see a grenade bounce. He took cover behind his bruteshot right before the small ball o' death exploded. He was hurled away, landing ten metres away and sliding away. He was unable to keep hold of his bruteshot, which clattered away to the side of him. The Meta was fairly unharmed, although his overshields were brought down.Thanks to the low profile he had assumed, the blast mainly hurled him away vertically. This meant that the ice could still bear him, albeit with cracks.

The Chief took the advantage offered by the grenade and moved forward, albeit slowly and lightly so he wouldn't damage the ice, firing at the downed Meta with short rifle bursts.

Ragnar began to move beneath the ice, floating on his back and pulling himself silently and sedately along the lower surface. He used the teeth of his chainsword to give himself some extra purchase.
