When I leave my mind idle, I tend to wander to weird trains of thoughts. Like whether all gorn movies could be improved by replacing the dumb teenagers with the black knight from Monty Python.

Anyway, on the topic of this thread, With the many 40k vs halo/ mass effect/ my little pony threads, I started to think about other over-powered universes and obviously, what came up was Dragonball.

So because I like watching debates in this forums, Which universe is more overpowered and planet destroy-y? If you want to limit this even more, you can leave out the mystics and alien race and just leave it to the earthlings and saiyans vs the Space marines.

I have no opinion either way because Disgaea pwns both

Whats with "WH40K vs" threads ? :3

OT: WH40K ALWAYS WINS!

The imperium would use their seemingly infinite resources/manpower/superweapons to crush the saiyans.

"Exterminatus anyone?" KA BOOM!

After a while in the Dragonball timeline Goku became omnipowerful, omnipotent, and omnipresent: You may recognise these as the three features of the Christian God.

Nothing happened in the universe that he didn't know about.
He became able to travel to anywhere in the univese instantly.
He was able to increase his power exponentially by shouting without any limits.

As overpowered as Warhammer 40k is, it is still a universe built on rules, and in this case Goku would effectively be Neo. No Chaos God could outwit him, no weapon could harm him, he could take an exterminatus to the groin and not even recoil. The only thing that would possibly stop Goku is if he died from old age before he destroyed everything. That's pretty much it.

Except against Lovecraft. At the very least, that is close to a draw, because we have yet to determine how Azathoth relates to any of the universes - is WH40K part of it (so a stray thought can wipe it out) or not (in which case it's a really weird how would they fight).

But I do not have an opinion on Dragonball. I know very very little. In fact, I only know the name of Goku (protagonist? something like that. Main character at least), he is uber powerful (over 9000 and all) and very recently I learned there were actual balls that are called dragonballs. That's all my knowledge really. Oh, and there was some character named Bulma, I think. Yep, that sums up everything I know on the Dragonball universe. I don't know how it matches anything else.

I do know more than I should about Dragonball and an ok ammount of warhammer 40K and not sure how you could compare the 2, there is really nothing comparable about them.

Dragonball wins because the powers of DBZ are not limited by a need to be good or interesting. They just grunt louder and destroy a bigger planet.

I could make a movie where I focus on a rotting fish for 3 hours. Then the fish has a thought bubble of the universe exploding, followed by text saying "and then the universe never existed " that fish is more powerful then DBZ. And it would be to DBZ what DBZ is to Warhammer. Warhammer loses in a fight by far, but Warhammer has the far more important distinction of being good.

I see you're imperium of man and raise you the spiral race:

Where is your god now?

Bwahahahahaha!! 'Good' he says!! Oh, that's a good one!

But seriously, there's nothing remotely (morally) 'good' about anything in the WH40K, though I will agree (rather reluctantly) that Dragonball wins because the separate factions of WH40K are limited in a number of ways. One, refusal to accept anything not 'natural' to their faction, two, just as much infighting as fighting whoever the bad guy du jour is, three, knowledge of their own weaknesses and limitations ('Nids and Orks being probably exceptions), and the fact that the most powerful individuals are either half dead and subsist on the souls of a thousand innocent citizens a day or are (for now, at least) kept in an alternate dimension.

I don't think Warhammer 40K can win this, in Dragonball people with high enough power levels are immune to guns, at a higher power level this includes laser guns, and a single person can easily destroy planets.

Warhammer would win and here's why: If the two fought it can be assumed that the Dragonballs would be available for those in the 40k universe. In such a case it is easily conceivable that the Imperium could gather then to wish the Emperor and all the loyal Primarchs back to life. Now the loyal chapters may refused to do this believing the Dragonballs to be the work of chaos. However, one of the "traitor but not" chapters (I'm looking at you Alpha legion) could gather them to bring back the Emperor.

Once the Emperor + loyal primarchs are back the Emperor would mind rape Goku while Sanguinius stabbed Gohan repeatedly and Leman Russ punched Vegeta in the face until it stopped being funny.

I'd actually have to say DBZ could stand a good chance here. Kinda hard to top characters who at their weakest point could trigger Exterminatus on a whim:

(It's near the end of that video.

who also have plot armor of such quality as to make the Ultramarines scream out "BULLSHIT!"

If the characters in Dragonball have the slightest lick of tactical sense, they would effectively win within the first thirty minutes of conflict, although the mop up action would probably take a while. Godlike power combined with instantaneous transport has its perks, and all the power of the Imperium is useless if it encounters a being capable of simply bypassing their defenses to sever their lines of supply.

Then again, none of the characters in Dragonball ever seemed to indicate a capacity for that kind of thinking from what I've seen, and would probably just engage head on. Then it just becomes a dick waving contest between unimaginably powerful tech based weapons and corrupting magic vs freaky hair and infinite lung capacity that somehow seem to among other things confer immunity to just about everything.

Hate to say it, but I think Dragonball wins this one. Guys who can singlehandedly destroy half the galaxy, and then there's the namesake artifacts.
"What is your wish?"
"Ohai, powerful magical dragon! Could you do me a solid and wipe out that bothersome Imperium of Man?"
KABOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
"It has been done."
"Kthxbai!"

In the end there would be nothing left but Goku, the C'tan and the Chaos gods (possibly the Emperor as well). All of which are unkillable and would then most probably realise the futility of existing in a universe devoid of life.

Given that Dragon Ball Z ended with Buu who could teleport between planets instantly, blow them up within ten seconds upon arrival and leave to another world to repeat this process I would have to say the Dragon Ball wins here by virtue of being poorly thought out.

Goku also wasn't very bright. Not many of the characters came off as particularly clever. Problems could just be punched to death. Goku may have been powerful, but I'm betting Tzeentch would be able to outwit him. And, if not Tzeentch, Nurgle would definitely be able to kill him. It's a lot harder to punch a disease.

Goku dies to a Heart Virus.

Nurgle is all pestelence, illness, and sickness combined.

WH40k > GBZ

This. The cyborgs would still pose a problem though, but I bet you could screw them over with some EMP or whatever.

Otherwise, I'll sadly have to admit that DBZ would probably win. When you have to keep 1-upping your bad-guys even after it's been established that the main character is a) the most powerful being in the universe, b) capable of destroying planets by sneezing and c) has GLOWING MANGA HAIR, the stuff in your universe tends to get fairly ridiculous. And while it takes quite a lot to out-ridiculous WH40k, I do think DBZ manages to do it. Especially in the hair department.

Or.. well, the word "Tyranids" just came to mind. I'm suddenly not so sure anymore. :V
