WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!

Oh ho ho ho I cannot wait to play this game to the point that I am tempted to buy this at launch. Yes I know its better to just wait for this game to get all polished up and the extra content provided but damn it I wanna lead an Army of Orcs sieging the Empire's capital right now :p

Seems kind of weird how an orc warlord would take a human adviser. And how he can just waltz into the camp without the fear of being eaten.

That old man sounds and looks a lot like the one in the reveal trailer. You know, the one who gets possessed by Tzeentch and calls upon The Changer of Ways. CA has confirmed that it is in the game. So why do I have a feeling that this old man is in every campaign, helping your chosen faction as an advisor and then turning on you once you near victory. Acting as the final "boss" fight of sorts.

Looked cool BTW.

The 'Boss is smart enough to know they need someone to tell them that they can't hide in lava; Mork knows they can't figure it out for themselves.

Now be fair, once they try that, they're usually smart enough to not try that again. If not, well, there's always more boyz.

OT: I'm excited but I'm disappointed my faction (Tomb Kings) aren't in the game. Doubly so due to what GW did to us.

I've heard rumors about what GW did to the Tomb Kings and Bretonnia, but nothing concrete. Didn't they like just write a majority of the Tomb Kings out of the universe and then added what few remained to the Vampire Counts? I think poor Bretonnia just got demoted to "minor faction".

After months of no mention in the fluff, it was announced suddenly that the Tomb Kings no longer existed. Every model was to be sold and any model that couldn't be folded into the armies of death would no longer be legal to play. This meant that every model asides from Skeletons were suddenly worthless. What's extra insulting is that during the End Times, Games Workshop created multiple new (and expensive) models for the Tomb Kings (like $150 for 1 model expensive) and within 18 months those models are now worthless in Age of Sigmar. Needless to say, I'm rather pissed.

Britannia is similar but they didn't suffer the insult of having brand new models to buy before being killed off and they still exist within the fluff. Plus they've been neglected for years so the pain is easier to swallow in comparison.

Man, I knew GW was a shitty company with abysmal business practices. But this, this just takes the damn cake. "Thanks for all your money, loser. Now buy more models!" I imagine them cackling from their offices. I honestly think this might be the worst company to ever plague this earth.

I mean, this is the company that proudly stated this during their investor's meeting

GW said:
... the word ?Game? in Games Workshop encourages the misconception that games are its business, but that only about 20% of Games Workshop?s customers are gamers. The rest are modellers and collectors. Maybe half of them think about playing now and then. The other half have no intention. People actually walk into the stores because they?re curious about modelling fantastic armies.

When another shareholder asks if the company would sell games with pre-painted easy to assemble miniatures like the popular Star Wars themed X-Wing game, there?s a collective growl from the Games Workshop people. It wouldn?t be a hobby business then, it would be a toy company.
So yeah, you're not wrong.

Ouch. Do you mean literally cannot be used as models in a Games Workshop store or can't be used in competition? Both are pretty shitty given how new and expensive they are, but I still get to use my pre 40K marines at my local GW. I'm very much in the half that thinks about playing now and then though, so maybe I'm part of the problem :p

OT: At least wait a week so you can be sure it's not a buggy PoS. I'm still happily torp'ing mofos in BFG and probably will be for some time, so I have my Warhammer fix atm and will be able to hold off until it's got more factions etc.

From what I heard when they scrapped Fantasy SOME stores allowed customers to continue playing 8th Edition at the managers discrestion, but its been a year now so I doubt GW will let people do that anymore.

I'm sure you can still use Tomb King models as "counts as" models in Age Of Sigmar (I knew a guy who was still using his Squat models as Space Marines), but then that means having to play Age Of Sigmar.

OT: I do love Greenskins in Warhammer Fantasy. They're a bit more socialised than their 40k counterparts so it's not THAT unusual that a boss would have a human advisor if the humie had proven his usefulness either by offering info on where the good fights are or something. Also, Tzeentch could just be messing with the orcs brain or something.

So...basically the Orc's are the Benny Hill comic relief of the Warhammer Universe? Because every time I see them, I can't take them seriously. But everyone I know that plays Warhammer is always like "it's grimdark on grimdark drugs, basted in grimdark, soaked in grimdark, and glazed in misery and despair.".....and then the orcs come out with "More Dakka!" and "Let's get to fightin!" and all that ridiculous shit. So, they're basically the walking joke of WH?

I would argue the 40k Orks are even more comic relief then the Fantasy ones.

Because these Fantasy ones are even more brutal and violant and warmongering then the 40k ones that I have seen. Especially the Savage Orc tribes:

Grimdark only ever applied to 40k.
Originally 40k was a satire, but somewhere along the way all the humor got lost to appeal to the edgy teenager demographic.

Orks are the last remnants of 40k's origins as a satire of Judge Dredd and other 2000AD comics, which is probably why they're a bit out of place with the rest of the setting. Fantasy orcs have always been that way though but the Old World never lost its sense of humor.

I intend to play Greenskins first when I get the game. They look like fun.

I've always had a soft spot for orcs in their various incarnations.

Although from what I've seen Dwarves would suit my Total War playstyle the best. My natural inclination has always been to just line up the biggest artillery I can get my hands on, put a meatshield around it and let the enemy come to me. Hardly creative, I know, but it always seemed to work. (Against AI at least. I daresay a good human player would beat me with ease, but I don't play the mutliplayer.) Dwarves seem made for exactly that.

But fuck Dwarves. Dwarves are dull.

Wagh!

Judging by your avatar, I'm guessing you have a soft spot for Wesnoth's orcs. These ones do play roughly similar. Large variety of cheap, aggressive units you need to tactically throw (sometimes literally) at the enemy.

And dwarfs?! Dull?! That's going in the book!

Heh, yeah.

Actually, the Wesnoth forums were my first foray into online message boards. I did a bit of pixel art for them once upon a time. Some of it even made it into the main game (although they may since have been replaced, the Wesnoth team were pretty aggressive about updating their art. The art director was a real go-getter, great guy.) My first contribution was an attack animation for the Orc Grunt. I was so proud of it that I kept this avatar as a little online memento.

3rd edition until death! DEEEEEEEAAAATH!!!!

Ah right, you can still use them in store but not in tournament so they are just very expensive proxies for playing AoS at your local GW.

Squats? No, no, I assure you, those are just ratling snipers that haven't shaved for a while.
