So I played Dead Island a few hours last night. I had just gotten far enough in the game to get a decent weapon to upgrade and a good mod to make it, did about 3-4 hours of side quests/exploring for loot.

Load it up tonight. Gone. Back down ~5 Levels lost weapons, quests uncompleted.

What. The. Balls.

Turns out people everywhere with ps3 version having this problem. Hears the tentative consensus

IF PLAYING SINGLE PLAYER: Turn of network discovery, make sure its just set to single player.

IF PLAYING CO-OP: Stay joined up with a group.

Apparently the ps3 doesn't like it when you are playing with the coop option one but not in a group. People are reporting that trophies they earned when this happened are gone as well which seems odd. Its weird because I died and it reloaded my last checkpoint and it acted like it was saving, I quit to the menu before exiting the game, this all just disappeared when I restarted.

I'm pissed because I know I am like 2 hours from a new area now and I really don't want to replay that section again.

This has been a problem on all systems. The official statement is that they don't know what's causing it yet. Sorry for your loss.

I know that sucks man but I think it has been happening to all systems... not just Ps3.

EDIT: Ninja'd. Or more accurately didn't read his post before posting.

This is one of the games that I want to get, but not if I'm going to have problems like that. I hope they can fix it soon. Sorry about your game save.

The game sucks anyway. The way your character moves around in this game is like a drunken hobo with both wooden legs, one significantly shorter than the other. That's not the only reason. The game is simply unplayable. It's an unfinished product. Ubisoft seems to be full of those lately.

Wait, you're Adam Jensen?

Well that explains it. You just want to belittle the competition so everyone will buy YOUR game, you narcissistic bastard! XD

OT: That's a bummer. You know, there was a time where games didn't have the option of free, over-the-internet updates, so they had to ship polished and 100% finished. -_-'

That doesn't mean games were glitch and bug free. Also, the complexity of games 5 generations ago was a little lower. Or a lot.

However, I too yearn for the days of galaga.

Honestly, I haven't seen anything on the market recently that supercedes the plot complexity of a lot of older games. Before the graphics-centricity of the modern market, games like Chrono Cross and the Final Fantasy games (the single digit iterations, anyways) had to rely on epic stories and gameplay to be worth playing.

Dead Island a competition? Oh, please. Did you see my game? Did you see my awesome coat? There are no coats in Dead Island.

Had a blast playing this last weekend but am putting it down now due to this and the multiplayer being pretty much FUBAR at the moment. Super fun game I just really hope all the launch issues don't kill off the multiplayer community before it can get started.

And he's got sunglasses coming out of his FACE!!! By the way Robocop and Commander Shepherd called, they want their character development archetype back.

Played again last night after posting this. Every thing went well. But I was paranoid and exited the game and restarded after every couple of quests. It was seriously like a 2 minute quicksave process. The game didnt hiccup once but I was still paranoid restarted the game whenever I went back to sell loot.

Also on a lot of the forums I looked at about this people claimed to only have problem on ps3, but I guess if i googled the 360 version then I would have found some.

On a good note, I knew what weapon I wanted and just did the sidequest for that, forgot the rest and ran through it. Took 30 minutes rushing what took 2 hours slowly.

If anyone gets really frustrated with this then the magic door trick may help.

At least you'll be able to start the game without worrying about your lost levels.

Yes, there may not be coats, but at least you don't have to spend the game fiddling with silly augments and listening to your awkward voice. :p

Yes, old game still had bugs and glitches, like The Omega Stone, as a personal experience, crashing when you went to Stonehenge that the company actually sent a patch for (this was way back), but, since devs didn't have the option of adding content later except in expansion packs (depending on the game) that had to have a lot of new content to be worth the money, their games had to be a lot more polished and playable.

We now live in a world where they can just ship a half finished game and just add the rest later, or charge for it as DLC ... or just charge for most of it! (Free2Play)

As for games being more or less complex, that was a problem of technology. And actually, most AAA title games these days have LESS complexity than older games. Thankfully, we still have the indie devs who aren't out to please stockholders by making a "mainstream" game.
