Yes, I know, done to death, but hear me out.

If a situation happened to arise in which:
1. Magic existed
2. You could get almost free weapons
3. The world needed saving or an army defeating or something

What kind of 'Hero' would you be in real life?

I think I would make a decent rogue, I'm fairly fast, light, and sneaky (The Adorable Pink Hat Ninja!)

Edit: Oh FUCK. Missed a poll.
Sorry guys.

Mage, no question. Not only are they the best, but it's more suited to what I can actually accomplish. I'm out of shape and claustrophobic, so I can't physically beat people down and those helmets warriors wear wouldn't work for me. But I'm intelligent, and in most games intelligence is tied to magical aptitude, so I guess I'm set.

I play Mage for most games, though I do play a Paladin on Diablo II and a warrior on Oblivion because most of the enemies are based on melee in Oblivion and I play Diablo II on a laptop so it's really hard to click. But everything else I play a mage because I like to play a medic in all my other games and mage normally has healing spells. And you can also shoot fire out of your hands.

And I mean that as in that's what I would choose... kind of left that part out.

Can I multi-class? If so, War Mage, specifically Combat Medic. I want to attack with magic from afar, but when the situation arises, I need to be able to whip out a melee weapon to even the playing field. I would also like to be self-sufficient in curing myself, hence the medic part. If it was in-game, my offensive magic and close range combat skills would be somewhat gimped.

If I can only be one, Mage. There's a whole lot of options for magic types that Rogues and Warriors don't have.

Depends on how I'm feeling at the moment. Warrior if I want to make sure that the enemies actually die, because if I'm a hero then my allies will probably be worse than me. Rogue (Rouge?) if I felt like avoiding the enemies' heavy hitters and killing them from behind. Mage if I felt like shooting various flavours of lightning. If pressed, I'd choose Warrior simply to make sure they enemy died correctly.

Although I much prefer rogues, I reckon I'd probably be best sutied to being a mage.

As the others have said, I'd multi-class. It's not that I enjoy supporting but I feel I'm required to because someone else who does may be bad at it.. so I pick something I like generally (Warrior) but also have something there to back-up if need be (Mage). More of a paladin type really. It fits who I am mainly, and in most games I play.

MMOs - Paladin class
Co-op games (like halo/mw2) - The guy who sits back ready to let you respawn or pick you up
Alien Swarm - Medic - thankfully they're not full support, and act just like the other classes.
Personality - I don't want to help you but I will if I have to ;)

In general, warrior.

Specifically, Paladin.

Reason, so that I may go forth, smite arse and look good doing it (also, I could probably handle the 'knight in shining armour' routine pretty well).

mage because, well they have powers! warrior just has big stick
and rouge is normally a dime a dozen backstabbing scumbag.

Warrior.
I have a tendency to run screaming at my foes until they flee like frightened goats.
Plus I have a fairly hefty supply of melee weapons on hand already.

Definitely a warrior. I usually play a warrior archetype in any RPG game; and it's just my personality type. I tend to want to get in the thick of it and take one for the team. I like to think of myself as 'heroic' and the warriors tends to suit that image perfectly.

Rogue. I always play rogues in RPG's. Thief in Oblivion because that's totally something different.

Stealth is always the best approach to a conflict.

EDIT:

Remember the Dark Brotherhood quest where you have to plant the poison apple on the guy and he eats it and dies. Now that was a badass stealth quest. The one where you drop the moose head on that guy from his attic crawlspace was pretty badass too.

I'd like to say warrior as that's usually what I play as. But I think I would be far better suited as a rougue as I am fast, agile and can be quite sneaky.

So long as magic didn't become ineffective in the end game (I'm looking at you Final Fantasy and glancing at you Nippon Ichi) mage. I would continue to practice my magic and stretch my limits until I could lay waste to all matter within 50 km and then destroy the threat Nippon Ichi style.
