So it seems like consumers have actually won a victory here. According to a Kotaku article(http://kotaku.com/5969836/the-war-z-removed-from-steam?utm_campaign=Socialflow_Kotaku_Twitter&utm_source=Kotaku_Twitter&utm_medium=Socialflow) WarZ has been removed from Steam, with Valve stepping in to say that it will not be re-released until they are happy with the new build.

Even more interesting in my opinion is that Valve has essentially shot down Hammerpoints attempt a at a "no-refunds" agreement, by stating that all users who are unhappy with their purchase can seek a refund by opening a ticket on Valve's support site.

It's nice to see a developer not being able to get away with such a shoddy release, and that Valve is actually willing to do something about it.

This is a very, very good thing. Not that the game is shitty, but that Valve took it down and is offering refunds.

Steam actually stepping up to the plate and enforcing some standards... the end really is nigh.

It's baby steps but they finally started making some.

I wish Valve would do something wrong one of these days so there could be some kind of competition in the market. This whole doing the right thing, thing, is kinda unsettling when they're the only ones doing it.

Knew Valve would do the right things about this.

I'm guessing that anyone that doesn't want a refund will have access to the game once it has be re-released.

Of course there's still the point to be made that Valve should not have let the game be sold on Steam before being properly checked.

Props to them for stepping up though.

I'm really happy that Valve stepped up to the plate and took it down.

I don't think it's their responsibility to quality-check every game that they sell. Its like asking a Gamestop to make sure every game they sell isn't broken or glitchy. When it comes to not releasing incomplete or buggy games, and to make sure it meets standards, the onus is on the publisher, in this case it was Arktos Entertainment(the fact that you've never heard of them may give away that they are very, very small).

Anyone who has bought the game can still play it, you just can't purchase it anymore.

I think I've read that Valve has this stupid policy that if someone has already a game on Steam, they won't do a thorough quality check. I might be wrong though.

But then Revelations 2012 would never have seen the light of day!

This brings up something commical. Revelations 2012 is still being sold while The WarZ was pulled. It takes a special kind of bad to outdo Revelations 2012.

Why are people praising Valve for first allowing such a piece of crap on their distribution platform, and then because they were getting too many complaints about it, took it down?

My god is this the age we live in now? An age where a company is praised for doing something when hundreds, maybe thousands of players complain to them? Doing what should be done should not be praised. Doing -more- than should be done should be praised.

Yeah, Valve really needs to actually look at games before they release them on Steam.

Because there is no need to fling shit after an error was corrected. Is such a concept really that alien to you?
Aanndd...you only know how to either fling shit or praise? How about just...staying neutral about the situation?

There's nothing wrong with giving them praise for doing what they should have done morally even though they had plenty of incentive not to do it. If your friend finds someones wallet with two hundred bucks in and hands it in to the police you give them praise for doing the right thing, no? Valve didn't have to do this, they could have taken the easy route, left the game up there, let more people fall into the trap and made a little bit more cash in the process, instead they're doing the right thing, so we praise them in the hopes of encouraging them to continue doing the right thing. Nothing wrong with that.

We're half a page in and the fight has already started!

LOOK, Valve should have looked at the game beforehand, YES, but at the same time, when people saw the game and complained in their entirety, Valve did something very noble of them: Manned up, took it down and gave refunds to people from around the company with the strict "No Refunds" policy!

Honestly, complain about it appearing all you want, but in an age of MSP and Origin, its good to see an Online seller looking at a product and going "They right, its shit. Take it back, and we're watching you from now on".

This is a good thing people, lets not tarnish it with stories of "Well they should have checked, its their job". They're very busy working on 3 right now!

This situation would be more akin to you finding a wallet, and then the owner coming up to you and asking it back. (you know for sure it's the right guy.) Do you deserve praise for handing that wallet back to the person? No, you did what you should have done. Nothing more or less.

I've not been keeping up with this but I went to check it out. My god that game is so bad. People are trying to defend it saying that it is in Alpha, but a game that is in Alpha should not be released and advertised as a completed game. The textures are bad, the game is buggier than any Bethesda game, and there are so many lies that have been told about this game.

Fun fact: The creative director of this game is the same person who made Big Rigs...well that explains a lot.

I honestly hope that Valve can push Hammerpoint into doing the game properly, because the premise itself can make for an extremely fun game, if done properly.

I agree with you completely, if a game is in Alpha, it needs to be advertised and sold as such. Take Minecraft for instance. When it was sold in Alpha, it basically had 'ALPHA' plastered everyone across the purchasing process and game, as well as the guarantee that you'd get all future versions of the game for free. No real excuse for selling a game on steam as the final version when its incomplete.

I think there's promise in the game, it just needed another year in development.
