Off the top of my head not watching Dragon ball in around 12 year. Krillin fell in love with a robot. Vegeta let Cell reach a power enough to destroy the universe. Trunks refused to save the day because he didn't want to hurt his fathers pride. Piccolo dumped a 4 year old in the middle of no where so he could train. Bulma was a slut and gohan was only inspired to fight after someone died.
Everyone on DragonBall was retarded! But it was fucken awesome show. You check your brain in at the door and just enjoy... then find out on the next exciting installment what will happen next
"On the next Dragonball Z, thirty solid minutes of Frieza standing there "powering up" while Vegeta's eye-piece energy reader dramatically cracks, and he claims he's 'never felt power like this before!'"
lol, yes . Every episode had at least one character utter a line similar to "aah ahh, his power level is unbelievable. How is this possible?!" in his thoughts usually. Every episode was so cliche, but GOD DAMN it was good!!!
Yes, very much so... I'm guessing from when he hit his head as a child... that's what happens when your a neglectful parent... your child develops super human abilities but at the expense of a few brain cells...<.<
it's Indiana Jones, you don't do that kind of things when he's around
on a side note, would anybody care to explain to me all the hate about this movie? I still don't know why people keep saying that George raped Indiana Jones for that movie, I really don't
I mean, I loved it, I honestly thought that they could've removed Shia LeButtfuck, but I still loved that movie nonetheless
I've never understood that either. I enjoyed it when I watched it in theaters, and I enjoyed it again when it came on TV a few months back. The main argument I've heard basically boils down to "It's sci-fi instead of fantasy, therefore it sucks." Thing is, Indiana Jones has never been about the objects he was searching for; it's always been about the quest itself. That's why Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade was such a fitting end to the series -- the quest for the grail is the ur example of the end of the quest being less important than the quest itself. Besides, anyone who thinks Crystal Skull is the worst in the series clearly hasn't seen Temple of Doom. Unnecessary, maybe, but then so were Terminator 2 and Aliens, and I think we've all heard people arguing that those were better than their respective originals, and can admit that it's a valid opinion, whether we agree with it or not.
OT: I'd imagine if given an IQ test, Goku wouldn't exactly be a genius. Whether he'd be low enough to be considered mentally retarded or not, I doubt he'd score 100, let alone any higher. Maybe 75-85?
idk, if you include the scene from the abridged series where she dreams vegata has come to rape her, kinda?
as for goku, I get the feeling that had he not gotten the brain damage, he would have been kinda like his brother radits. you know, arrogant and evil. But it has to be something he got from his mother, because from what we saw in Bardok, his father was pretty intelligent and noble.
But the head injuries that caused his stupidity are probably what allowed him to become as powerful as he did. since for generations such power was unatainable by anyone but the saiyan elite, we know this from vegeta, but goku reaches super saiyan first. Its this child minded innocence that lets him plow on despite social norms and allows him to gain unimaginable power.
as for the whole abonding his family bit, he was a fighter in a realm where his power was becoming uneeded. were I given the same choice I would doubtlessly choose the same. Its the same reason that superman and batman leave Earth in Generations. Once you've beaten everyone, find more people to beat up.
this is also his blood talking. We have to remember he comes from a family of warriors. sitting on his ass shooting the breeze is not his style, its not in his blood. It was inevitable that he would go off and fight.
I'm going to be that guy.
Prove it to me. "numerous occasions" and giving one example of where he needed to train in order to save the world (thus having the personal judgement to put the needs of the many over the needs of the few) is not a good example.
And people hit their head all the time, plus Goku was super duper strong. He gets dinged up all the time. A good whack ain't gonna do much. If your talking about his childlike nature, then that's more a characterization aspect then mental disability. Look, I'm not a huge fan of the show, but I'm calling you out on this one
Raised in a highly unorthodox manner? Yes.
Hopelessly naive and optimistic in nature? Without a doubt.
Brain damaged? Not really, no.
I am suprised that so few people realise this. Afterall, that was the entire premise behind the original Dragonball anime and half of the jokes in it; it was a story about a unnaturally talented boy who lead a simple life, but, due to necessity, makes contact with civilization and faces all of its not-so-simple intricacies.
But then again, the original Dragonball was never popular in the West.

first off, he got strong later in life, second off, he fell off a cliff. This isn't standing up and hitting your head on a low hanging shelf, he fell off a cliff. Only his saiyan blood allowed him to survive. I'm betting, bare minimum, his skull cracked open.
He was also only 2 at the time. 2. how many 2 year old you know fall off cliffs, land head first, and survive? let alone without severe brain damage.
I very much want to unread that. Alas, it is stuck in my head. I'll get you next time NotSoNimble! NEEEXXXTTTT TTIIIIMMMMEEE!!
OT: I have heard that theory before, and it makes some sense. But what about how he GOT there in the first place? I mean as a saiyan, he was sent across the universe and landed there. So is he... a... retarded Saiyan?
The alien who was part monkey, from another planet, who lived in a world filled with dinosaurs, could destroy entire planets by firing a laser from his hand, and who performed magic by summoning a dragon that could make wishes come true...
It's hilarious arguing about the IQ level of this type of character.
As for in the actual series, I'd have to say... maybe, just maybe, slightly. But I think it's just that he's eternally naive, maybe because he wasn't raised the same way his race usually is raised.
They're usually raised in a very basic way. Kill. Survive. Kill again. Get stronger. He was taught compassion, so that probably messed with his built-in instincts.
It has been shown several times Goku was fairly thoughtless throughout the series. I don't think he was brain damaged. That is just a character flaw he and many people have.

good sir, me and all my childhood friends would like to power up and have a talk with you, our scanners from 4th grade are proof of your foul language.
Except you're looking at this too narrowly. He is an alien, for all we know that's what a Saiyan develops like without a violent tribe-like upbringing. He may do things differently not because he's intellectually disabled but rather because he simply thinks in a completely different manner.
