My friend and i were thinking of going to see a movie and he wants to see it. Is it as bad as critics say it is? Is it unintentionally hilariously bad like Troll 2?

To some degree you are right, with the film as cheesy as the comics[footnote]Assuming Green Lantern's comic were as well.[/footnote] However, I didn't watch this film or read the comics, so what I've said might be a 7ft pile of steaming, stinking, steaming pile of grade A monkey crap.

I certainly didn't enjoy it all too much, uninteresting underdeveloped characters, a half-baked plot and sloppy writing. It isn't laughably bad either, just bland. Might I recommend The Room if you're inclined toward that kind of thing. It's often heralded as the Citizen Kane of bad movies and for good reason.

Well aside from Parallax looking like something out of Hentai and taking some elements of source then burning and pissing on them it is a watchable but bland film. So many little tweaks could have made it so much better.

Before reading the critics review I saw green lantern. I enjoyed the movie. Most movie goers don't dissect every aspect of the movie the way the professionals do. You'll enjoy the movie if you don't treat it as a term project to be graded for your student.

I didn't like it because instead of seeing the Green Lantern kick some ass in a fun superhero movie, I got Ryan Reynolds, who I still like as an actor, mope around for an hour about how he's not cut out for the job, then an anticlimactic fight scene with some of the ugliest use of CGI I've seen in a while.

It was bad, yes, but some might find it bearable. To sum it up: Too much moping. Not enough space-cop.

I'll be the first person in the thread to say they actually saw the movie and aren't judging it by trailers and reviews.

I liked it, it was a fun movie. Sure, sometimes the CGI wasn't great, but it was better than say, X-men 3, Spider-man 3, or any of the Fantastic Four movies. I thought it was much less of a disappointment than Ironman 2, which really didn't hold up compared to the first.

Go see it at the budget, it's fun and thrilling.

It was bad. I haven't been so disappointed by a superhero movie, especially one with such a great history and so much great material to use. I wouldn't say it's the worst ever, but its 6.2 on IMDB is being very generous. A 4 or low 5 seems more appropriate.

Now yes, I am a fan of the comics. But I also brought a friend with me that has never read a single comic and she hated it too. The CGI is Phantom Menace level, the other Lanterns are barely given any screen time (You saw the majority of their time in the trailers), parallax went from a giant bug to a big smokey monster (I guess he and Galactus are part of the same support group) and Ryan Reynolds just doesn't seem to work as a hero that is supposed to be straight faced and has strong will (spoiler, he quits the corps and gets to keep the ring? Really?).

This movie wasn't bad for what it was supposed to be...a set up for Green Lantern 2...

Parallax was a big skull/tentacle/cloud and that irritated some people...but the alternative is a big yellow bug that would fit better in a MIB film and looked even sillier. Personally I agree that he went out far too easily, but the studio obviously wanted a Blackest Night villain and that's what we got...most comic movies kill their villains nowadays anyhow and odds were Parallax wasn't coming back for any of the possible sequals. The next movie is obviously for Sinestro and I think this movie did a good job of letting us like Sinestro just a bit before his inevitable fall from grace, without that set up Sinestro is just another villain...Ryan Reynolds felt much more like a better fit for Kyle's personalityfro as Green Lantern than Hal Jordan...personally I think he would have been better as The Flash but what's done is done...
