Was "Iron Man 2" was necessary to exist for the movies "Iron Man 3" and "Avengers 2"?

*WARNING!! spoilers for the movie Iron Man 2 and Minor Spoilers for Iron Man 3 and Avengers 2. You had been warned*

First of, I didn't like it so much the movie Iron Man 2. Uninteresting cliche villain, stupid uneccessary moments, not a good humor, etc.
However even I didn't liked the film, I noticed it was a very important moment for Tony Stark to make him take the decision to create Ultron, or be more specific, the A.I. Iron Man Suits.

Reason? The remote-controlled drones created by Ivan Vanko for the company Hammer to injure the fame of Tony Stark. The original idea was to create of suitable Mark 2 armors like the "stolen" War Machine Armor, however Ivan Vanko made remote control droids. Plus it was something else: It was the first time who someone could control a Iron Man armor remotly even if someone was inside.
Maybe this specific moment made Tony Start to think what he could do with a Mark armor who could control without being inside it. Or even better. What if he create a A.I. who could control them. Be able to help people without being in danger all the time.

So, what do you think? I am wrong or right to think like that?

Hard to say, I mean he did all of that in 3 which I guessing the plan for Ultron was to be a improvement over it since his control over the other suit was somewhat basic orders?

I know that the reason why he made so many varition well justify for the comicbook fans to see some of that variest suit in the big screen was his response to another threat in Avergers but I don't know if the remote control was a reference to 2.

EDIT- Also I happened to LOVED Iron MAn 2 due to it not being an origin movie.

I say no. The reason for this is that originally the release date was supposed to be for Ant-Man (which would have ended with Pym and possibly Wasp joining S.H.I.E.L.D., which was referenced in Thor in a throwaway line that was changed to reference Hulk instead). If that had happened they could have had Ultron retain his original backstory as being built by Pym, and Iron Man 3 could have still happened just the way it did as a logical explanation as to why Tony was supporting the project.

I still say Iron Man 2 should have been Ant Man, Tony Stark building Ultron and basically being the leader of the Avengers of this point because of RDJ's popular portrayal is overkill.
But, if the latest TV spot trailer for The Avengers 2 was anything to go by, Stark is just the guy thay "pay for everything... and design everything... and make everyone else look cooler..." since Cap is still the leader of the Avengers...

OT: Oh my glob... I'm having a hard time remembering what even happened in Iron Man 2 that could carry over to even The Avengers outside of certain obvious characters... Whereas with Iron Man 3, I can still remember which story elements in that movie's carrying over into The Avengers 2, kinda... Huh... When's that re-written Ant-Man movie coming out again?

Other than that, after re-watching a clip of Iron Man 2's ending just now, one of the comments on said clip mentioned the holograms in the background referencing potential [future] MCU material... So, there's that...

I don't get the hate of the second one. I prefer it far more than the first one.

Wait... are we talking about the first or second one here?

Iron Man 2 is one of the most important of all the movies. IT ties into LOADS of stuff and actually ties into and serves as the foundations for more and more stuff as time goes on.

Wouldn't this question be better asked after Avengers 2 has come out? We don't know how much that movie is going to reference the others (unlikely that it'll be anything vital from Iron Man 2 but still). Has it been confirmed that Ultron will be one of the AI suits? I haven't watched any of the trailers.

I don't really get why Iron Man 2 is hated so much. I still think it's good brainless things go boom fun, and that it's not really that much of an Avengers movie as as standalone Iron Man movie. When it came out the only other Avengers movie that'd come out was The Incredible Hulk, and I don't know how confident Marvel felt about the whole movie universe thing at that point. I could see it having been planned more as "more Iron Man" than "setup for Avengers" if you catch my drift. That might explain why it apparently is a touch out of place in comparison to the other sequels and doesn't connect to them as much.

The second film. But I will admit, I didn't liked the villain in the first film also.

Iron Man 2 was the movie that moved several pieces into place, it's a preparation film for the Avengers that also tries to be a film that stands on its own two feet. There would have been more rage directed at it had it not at least tried to make some sense by itself.

It isn't very good but without it The Avengers would have to do its own groundwork on half the stuff that appears in the film, that would have bloated the run time.

Here's one metaphor: Iron Man 2 took the bullet of boredom for The Avengers so it could just go straight to the cool stuff.

Here's another: The most interesting part of a great battle is the battle itself, the decisive moments. Nobody gets excited by the dull but necessary bits where the generals deploy their troops and make the opening moves.

I'd agree, but I can't hear you over how awesome Robert Downey Jr's performance is, especially working alongside Sam Jackson.

OT: Asking if Iron Man 2 was necessary is like asking if my pasta could use some sauce with its grated cheese. YES! Of course it was necessary, because it was an enjoyable movie.
