Was MGS4 the best game of last gen?

Best game of the last gen? Was it even the best game of the week in which it was released? It was an all right game but it got one play through and has since been utterly forgotten about. For it to be 'the best' of anything, yet alone an entire console generation it has to be worth more than a single play through.

I guess the answer to that would be no, it wasn't if time played equals the best then that means that Burnout Paradise wins, I played that game online so much it was silly and was probably the only game that got a 100% completion. GTA5 though is quickly catching up.

MGS4 was a really fun game IF you don't take Metal Gear lore seriously. Which, if you do, I don't know what is wrong with you, Metal Gear doesn't take Metal Gear lore seriously. MGS4 has one of the best b-movie plots I have ever seen, with some of the most entertaining and ridiculous "serious scenes" in the history of video games. I mean, liquid ocelot tried to run over snake with a submarine upon which he carved a mini Mount Rushmore featuring Big Boss and his clones. This is pure gold.

Nothing, and I mean nothing, does campy ridiculous like Metal Gear.

This so much. I love MGS because of the camp and the cheese. I bet Liquid's voice actor was having so much fun delivering those Act 3 lines. People don't like MGS because they think the story/writing is great and deep.

Mgs 4 was great but i wouldnt rate it as the best game last gen. Theres plenty better like skyrim , dishonored, diablo 3 etc. Mgs 4 is still up there though with them all. One of the better mgs games imo.

MGS4 was the first Metal Gear I played myself, and certainly the worst.
The gameplay feels unfit for the challenges presented, like a relic from older, slower games, but maaaybe that's what Kojima was going for all along with old Snake and stuff?!
Dunno, I didn't like it.

My picks would propably go to DeS, DkS, SotC re-release, MGS3 re-release, Portal 2 and Journey? Pretty disappointing generation tbh. Skipping all PC games obviously.

In my mind mgs4 was the perfect ending to one of the greatest series ever, without a doubt it wrapped up all the loose ends with solid snake. That is why I am glad they now only focus on big boss and raiden. Honestly, the biggest problem I had with the game as a whole was and the useless gear you are given because kojima seemed to forget this was a stealth game....but after watching the final cinematic it felt like a chunk of my life was completed and I would never play mgs4 for the first time again...

not at all.. it was just an ok game at best.. far from being the best of the PS3/360/Wii/Wii U era.. there are a lot of other games far better that are on my short list of best games of the last generation..
