Was the water temple in Ocarina of Time really that difficult?

It wasn't that hard, no. It was just really time consuming. That's really the only reason I don't like it.

Hard: No

Annoying and tedious: Yes, mainly due to the clunkiness of the Iron Boots and how annoying changing the water level was. To change it to Level 3, you had to change it first to Level 2, and to change it to Level 2 you had the water to be on Level 1, which can only be turned on by Level 3.

Balls up one Level, and you have to waste another few minutes getting it back to that water level.

Again, not hard, just annoying.

There wasn't anything wrong with the Water Temple. Hell, my first playthrough, I didn't even get the Zora Tunic. I didn't know it existed. I thought the whole "limited" breath thing was part of the dungeon, and even then I worked my way through it without any problems.

So yes, I completed the Water Temple with the Fire Tunic equipped. No issue whatsoever with how the dungeon was created.

It isn't difficult, it just takes a while. You keep going back to the same rooms over and over, so its really hard to tell if you're making any progress. But before you know it, you'll have the hookshot and the big key, and be on your way to fight a blob.

If I remember, what made the OoT's Water Temple so difficult was a single point that I have to spoiler:

The water temple's problem, if I remember, was a single confusing point in the layout: There was an opening under the floating block in the central "Elevator" Column. However, there were spikes to either side, and a walkway leading up to the floating block. Unless you knew to raise the water level, put the boots on, drop down and risk impalement on the spikes, you'd never find it: It was completely contrary to the rest of the "flow" of the temple's layo, requiring you to go down further as the water went up, while quite a large number of other "false leads" ( including A locked door you lacked a key for, and two or three long-shot jumps that seemed slightly possible to achieve with the Hookshot) that did fit with the rest of the temple's pacing

If you didn't know about it, you'd think you were short a key, and/or had to figure out how to cross a gap with the short-ranged Hookshot, though the distance was too great.

If that one point hadn't been so out-of-the-way and detached from the Temple's logic, and the false leads not followed with the rest of the temple's logic so fluidly until the "break point" (Unexpectedly locked door or wide gap), then the temple wouldn't have caused anywhere near as much trouble.

I just watched a walkthrough video of it.

To me as an 18 year old? That looks pretty tricky.

Me as a 7 year old? That would end up in the pile of games I never managed to beat.

Many people who played the game when it was relatively new were much, much younger. To an 8-10 year-old, I'm sure it seemed a daunting task.
I think I was 6...lets just say the water temple made me reset the game so many times I got to the point as soon as I was adult link..I COMPLETED THE GAME CUZ F THAT SHIT! (not the words I used as a 6 year old but..you get the idea.)

I don't have anything against the water temple. The puzzles were, at times, a little time consuming, but that just increases the demand on exploration. Besides, it was much easier than the shadow temple and its damned shadow-hands.

You have to understand, a lot of people were like 8 when they first played the game.

Also, it is kind of a ***** in the original version because you had to waste like 10 seconds of play every time you wanted to take the Iron Boots on and off.

Well when I first played it on the N64 at like 5, it was hard as hell AND tedious! It was the temple that stopped me from completing the game until a few years later. But now I'm 17, and the improvements on the 3DS made the temple easier to navigate and much less annoying when it came to swapping boots, to me after playing it on the 3DS it's just a little time consuming changing the water levels. So I guess it is difficult, if you are a wee little child.

It was visible on the map, and I figured that out as a nine-year-old. You could see that the room was positioned underneath the elevator, so the logical conclusion was immensely rewarding to me.

in my opinion, not really

while yes, it was pretty much a pain in the ass switching the water levels almost all the time, I think the difficulty of that temple is actually kinda overrated
it's not hard, just tedious

on the other hand, Adult Ruto

This. The Loz:MM Water Temple is much harder.

It was hard because of the dungeon's layout. I remember the place being pretty big and having a confusing layout. Eventually the dungeon felt tedious and I just wanted it to end.

Really, it's not that bad but it's arguably the most exhausting.

I would not describe it as difficult but teadious.
Pretty much this.

Water level up. Water level down. Boots on. Boots off. Water Level back up. repeat.

I did love Shadow Link though. That part was cool. I always like portions like that though. My Favorite part of Shivering Isles was fighting your clone.

I have always hated water temples in general because of that game. I can't entierly remember why I hate it, but I always sit with the hate impression after I have been trhough the temple. Also, my first time playing OoT was on the collectors disc for the GC, when I was around 9-10. Also that fish which you have to do while you are a kid, well, that annoyed me back then XD

I just recall it being very boring. I don't like escorting things.

Then again, I never beat OOT, so I shouldn't be allowed to talk.
What escorting is there in the water temple?

OT: When I jsut played through it on the 3DS I had a problem because I missed the blovk where you have to play the Song of Time after Shadow Link, but otherwise I didn't have any problems. The first time I played through it I had less problems and considered it the easiest temple as an adult. Now I consider it the hardest mainly because it's time consuming.
