Was the water temple in Ocarina of Time really that difficult?

I never really found it that bad. I thought the Shadow Temple was the most challenging.

While we're at it, I love Navi.

I found some of the other temples maddeningly hard, but didn't have any trouble with the Water Temple.

The water temple has a very simple, logical progression through it that can be done very quickly if one simply follows things in natural order.

And... if one strays from that natural order by the slightest, say... using a key on the wrong door at the wrong time... then that natural order all unravels and becomes a convoluted mess as you try to find, not only the right place to continue and progress in location... but the right water level to allow continuance through that location.

The right way is easy, but it's OH SO easy to get stuck doing it the wrong way.

Water Temple was my favorite temple. It was the prettiest for sure. It just had a weird puzzle: lots of back-tracking. Still, it wasn't impossible. It was just a bit time consuming.

As has been said, I too missed a key and searching for a missed key while having to constantly switch boots and water level was kind of annoying. Also, Navi was awesome.

I was stuck in that temple for about 5 hours!! WHY? Because of ONE block in the wall I didn't realize you could pull out. Other than that, it was easy.

As a kid it was challenging, as an adult it's tedious. It's only claim to fame is being the single worst part of one of the best games of all time.

It wasn't 'hard' oh no, the difficulty had nothing to do with it.

It was repetative, the water level thing was cumbersome and the incredibly slow [Boots of Boring] made it the most hellish zelda dungeon of all time.

All time!

It was hard only because of the door keys. You had to find them in the right order and use them on the correct doors other wise you can make it so that you run out of keys before you unlock all the doors. happened to me on my first play through. Also it shadow link takes awhile.

So what if he doesn't think it's special that I can beat SMT: Nocturne without dying once, and get the special ending, cause the fact is to a lot of people it does matter.
Unless it's a thread about something that is genuinely difficult (like demon souls) and some asshat comes in and goes 'hurrdurr it weren't hard at all you noobs' in which case, the guy doing so IS being a bit of an asshat, and anyone with any social sense is absolutely right to come to that conclusion. You know... the point behind his video? Cause he flat out says it? Directly? He isn't even being subtle or quippy about it?

Sorry bro. Your rebuttal is meaningless because you're rebutting to things he wasn't even talking about. Please to be listening skills more.

Many people who played the game when it was relatively new were much, much younger. To an 8-10 year-old, I'm sure it seemed a daunting task.
This is exactly right. Just the memories alone of that temple make me want to rip my hair out.

I bought it when it came out and I remember the water temple being the worst. I don't recall the shadow temple being that bad at all.
As I understand it, at one point a new version was released with upgraded difficulty... for all the dungeons except the Water Temple, which was the only thing made easier.

For me it was because it was difficult to find all the silver keys, some of which were easy to miss.
I think at one point I was certain I had opened the wrong door with the key I had obtained and that I wouldn't be able to complete the dungeon because I was supposed used it on a different locked door.

Shadow Link I seem to recall I just used the Megaton hammer against and had no trouble.

Not for me. I played it on the gamecube special edition and aside from messing with the water levels a few times when getting stuck I didn't have any trouble. It definitely doesn't stick out as any harder then any other dungeon.
even when you compare it to the earth temple? hell, getting 40 ruppees to buy the sheild is harder than the earth temple
Some dungeons were more straight forward and simpler but I expect that in any good game. There is a gradually increasing difficult if one level suddenly pulled a psychonauts and shot up in difficulty or dropped down a whole bunch it would stand out, as it is nothing felt too out fo the ordinary. I got stuck in a few places for a bit int eh water temple but I got stuck in the shadow temple too and in the fire temple, it averages out.

The only reason people ***** about it is. If you spend your keys badly you can make it impossible. Other then that it can be a little confusing.
