Was there ever a game that made you change systems?

Let me start off by saying: I love Sony, I love the Playstation, PS2, and the PS3.

But back in the day when I was only about 6 or so I was actually a huge Nintendo fan. My very first game system was a SNES and my list of favorite games included: Super Marios Bros., Kirby All-Stars, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Megaman X. But as good as the games I had were none of them, with the notable exception of Megaman X, really reached out and held my attention for a significant length of time. None of them "hooked" me, to this day I don't know why, maybe I was just too young to really "get" some of them.

But then something happened (As it usually does). Me and my family went to Austin and spent some time with one of my dad's friends. His son had a Playstation and through him I was introduced to a game I fell in love with at first sight.

It was an amazing game! It was the first 3D game I'd ever played, the characters were cool, the story, while relatively simple, was awesome, the locations were imaginative, and the gameplay was tight and easy to pick up. I was hooked almost immediately. Right then and there I knew I had to get a Playstation, if only just to play this game.

What was this game you may ask? None other than Insomniac's own Spyro the Dragon. For my seventh birthday I asked for a Playstation and Spyro the Dragon. Not only did I get those but I was also introduced to a awesome game known as Ape Escape and from then on I was forever a Sony fan.

Well that's my story; So, my fellow Escapists, was there ever a game or anything else that caused you to jump platforms and never look back?

I never 'changed' systems, but there were games that made other systems worth buying. Halo was that for me on the Xbox, and that's carried over until today where I still prefer Xbox over the other systems. Uncharted though was excellent, it was the only reason I bought a PS3 and I can't say I'm dissatisfied with that purchase.

But this is coming from someone who had a PS2, then a Gamecube, then an Xbox in the last generation before a 360, a Wii, and then a PS3 in this one. I know I'm never buying another Nintendo system again, but I won't rule out the other ones.

Well, there's a game that made me start PC gaming. I was never really 'loyal' to any specific consoles, but while growing up I had very limited exposure to PC gaming, with things like Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II, NHL '95, Star Trek: Birth of the Federation, The Sims, and a bunch of kid-friendly games like Frogger, video game versions of board games, etc.

Most of my heavy gaming was on consoles, starting with Sonic the Hedgehog on the Sega Genesis, then Banjo-Kazooie, Mario Kart 64, Pokemon Stadium, and Star Wars Episode 1 Racer on the Nintendo 64, Final Fantasy VII on the PS1, then Sonic Adventure DX, Adventure 2 Battle, and Super Smash Bros. Melee on the Gamecube. Then I eventually got a PS2 and Xbox as well.

Then I started playing World of Warcraft.

And then I got a PC that could actually run it at more than 3 FPS, and I've probably put more time in on PC games than with all of the other consoles I've played combined.

... well, maybe excluding the Gamecube and/or PS2.

I also used to have PlayStation 1 back in my days and I loved it! However, it wasn't my choice to get one, my aunt gave it to me as a present from Japan if I remember correctly. And initially I only had two games on it, Disney's Hercules and Gex 3. Ahh... good old days. But then, I've completely switched to PC. There wasn't any particular reason or a game, it just kinda happened. Now, I'm seriously considering getting PS3 in addition to my gaming laptop and PSVita.

Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy 7 made me realize Nintendo was no longer the go to console, because, beforehand they were the ones coming out with the best games. And even though the N64 was a great system. Still. The PS1 blew them out of the water.

This hasn't necessarily happened to me. See, growing up super poor, I never had a new system, and often relied on being a generation or two behind the curve. (I was playing an Intellivision II up to the day the PSX was launched.) One of the things that I learned at an early age, was that I didn't need to have the newest game consoles as long as my friends had them. So I never really grew into a deep loyalty to one system. Floating amongst the vast sea of games, I saw all, and I became all. A mutiplatform jumper, that never really had a PC under his belt until one year for cristmas (In 2003) my parents got me an old computer with Windows 98 on it, that was broken, and told me to fix it. And by some voodoo magic, and rituals which baffle me to this day, without a disk, nor internet, nor digging into the internals I made that thing boot, and even as crappy as it was, I was able to dig backwards into the rich depth of gaming throughout time. Though, I was never much of a PC gamer until I made my way to college, and got my first laptop on student loans. Now, I spend most of my time gaming on PC, not because a game dragged me to it, but rather, because I now own a nice laptop, capable of running games solidly, and with bundles/free games I finally have games I can call my own.

Basically, I've always been a jack of all consoles, and even with the Xbone's failings, if a friend of mine buys it, by jove, I'm gonna play it.

I wouldn't say change systems, but Pokémon Silver and Oracle of Seasons convinced me to ask my parents for a Gameboy Colour for X-mas many years ago.

Not change exactly, but Journey played a large part in me finally buying a PS3.

Totally worth it too.

There was a game (Kingdom Hearts) that made me buy a system (PS2) a bit before planned, but other than that, I was never one to stay with just one system, as they all had something I wanted to play. It was just a matter of when I'd get them, rather than having to choose one and stick with it.

I bought my 3DS on a cold January morning right before Magfest so I could get into the StreetPass system of all things.

More of an update to my poor, worn-out DS rather than a change but you get the idea.

Oddly enough I started out with a N64 then a PS2 as opposed to any other Nintendo console (sans the handhelds) I actually SWITCHED back to Nintendo because I really like Pokemon as a kid, and Pokemon XD was far too enticing. (Who doesn't want to see their Pokemon in 3D?) Also I remember always having a blast with the Gamecube games my cousins had like Mario Party and SSB.

There have been plenty of times where I look forlornly at the PS3 and wish that I had it, but once I realized that my laptop can handle quite a few games I was content with having a Nintendo and PC combo.

I wasn't a fan of handhelds, but then I saw a friend playing Monster Hunter Freedom. I was sold. For a few years after I only used handhelds, until I saw that same friend play CoD zombies, which convinced me to buy a PS3 and start using that.

I don't really "change" systems per se. I owned every Nintendo console up to the latest and every handheld (not counting game and watches, though I owned one) minus the Virtual Boy.

Sonic games helped me get into the Genesis, though. A ton of games got me into the Playstation, and then I bought the next two in the series as well.

My friend bought me a copy of Final Fantasy XI which basically got me immersed in MMOs. It has probably ruined my life, but they are so much fun!

Monster Hunter.

Its ultimately why i bought a PSP.

Its literally why i bought a Wii.

And its going to be the overwhelming majority of the reason why i buy a WiiU, when i get the money for it.

Four years ago, I jumped from my Wii and bought a Xbox 360 because all my friends had one, and when we all had get-togethers at one friend's house we used for such times, they would all bring their 360s and TVs and link them to play Halo 3 custom games. I would end up bringing my Wii and TV as well, and we'd would have a very small session of Wii Bowling, but it of course always came down to those Halo multiplayer games and I would half to split screen with somebody. I just got tired of them deciding on who had to split screen and having to leech of one of them to play, plus while they had Halo 3 talk, they also talked about Fable 2 which they were all playing and loving.

During that time it so happened that GameStop was selling an Elite 360 Bundle that had both Halo 3 and Fable 2, so I bought it and three months of Xbox Live for 430 dollars. Considering how much fun I had with it, and the things still works, it was a sound purchase, even though it was if anything a peer pressure kind of purchase. Then a year later, I bought an HDTV because of it, which also has been one of the best purchases I've ever made.

Spyro the Dragon was glorious!

On topic, the way I went through systems was weird when I was a kid because I couldn't quite grasp console generations (I played my hand-me-down Genesis for a long time and I was buying a new console at the beginning of the ps2/gc/xbox gen). My first "proper" game console was my Gamecube and I mistakenly bought a Wii based on my experience with it. I can say one game made me seriously consider "upgrading" to a "real" console: Fallout 3. I played it at a friend's house and I just thought "I can emulate my character's entire life and childhood? THIS IS AMAZING!" And it was. [small] of course, I specifically chose ps3 for Metal Gear Solid 4 which was also amazing[/small]

My first console was the PS1 so I wanted the PS2 but I didn't get it for Christmas, apparently Santa was evil that year. But then I played Halo in a HMV store, split screen with my brother and so some months later when the price had dropped I got an xbox for Halo.

I've been happy with my xbox and then 360 but I have missed out on a handful of exclusives the PS2/3 offered. And now the Xbone is sadly driving me away which is why I truly wish the PS4 was backwards compatible so if I were to get one I could catch up on some of the games I missed out on but never mind. I'm not gonna rush to get a new console anyways.

Went from ps3 to 360 to be able to play tales of vesperia. And switched from psp to 3ds to play pokemon, mario and kirby again.
