Okay, so I'm a senior in high school and about a month ago I came out of the closet as bisexual, which I'd known about myself for roughly 2 years. I decided to come out at a vigil some of the other LGBT students at my school where having for national transgender day of remembrance, they where all very supportive, and overall it went pretty good, I told my parents a few days later, they where very accepting too.
But that isn't my problem...
I'm also on the school news paper with one of the people I came out to, she was doing a story about the vigil, and asked if she could write something in there (not allot, just a couple sentences or so) about me coming out. Now this was at about 8:00 AM, I had been up all night, and my brain was only functioning at about half capacity, so I told her "Sure! Why not? Go ahead!" a few hours later I realized that might not have been such a great idea...
Keep in mind, at this point in time only 8, possibly 9, people know I'm bi (excluding you internet folks), when this story is printed it will be known by everyone who reads it.
On one hand, I don't really view it as a secret anymore, I have no plans on ever denying it again. Also, people are going to find out sooner or later, so they may as well find out through this, rather than rumors that will inevitably spread. Also, anyone I necessarily DON'T want to know, probably wont read the paper anyway.
On the other hand, I don't like the idea of broadcasting information that personal to just anyone, and in a close knit community like this one, if one person knows something, everyone knows it.
It's probably too late to change things now, the final drafts for all the pages are already finalized.
So guys, what do you think? Was giving her clearance to write this a bad idea?
