I don't use either. I use arrow keys. If I can't remap to arrows, I don't play it.
Really, arrow keys ?
Are you stuck in the 1990's or something ?

OT: WASD, It's just what I'm used to and it's the default that works well enough.
You bet I am! WASD sucked in the 90s and it sucks now.

I'm just used to WASD I guess. It's not as if any of the keys used in games with WASD are incredibly out of reach either, it's usually either number keys, Q, E, R, etc.

I use WASD for no other reason than that I'm comfortable with it, and I use one of those keyboard gamepads (mmmmm... ergonomic). It makes a lot of sense, though. There are a lot more keys available to you this way.

Why stop at ESDF? Go RFDG. You get even more useful buttons with all of QWASZX and shift being reachable with the pinky without taking any fingers off of the movement buttons. Once I tried it, I will never go back.

I've never heard of the ESDF system. Apart from now ofc.

but i still think that WASD is more superior, because i seldom use the T, G and B keys.

Wasd has the shift key, ctrl and alt key closer to the pinky thus has an advantage :d
You don't seem to understand, this is not an advantage because if you move over to ESDF you also change the controls from using shift and ctrl to using shift and Z, and if you move over to RDFG you change them to Z and X. Notice how with WSAD your pinky can only reach shift or control or tab, limiting your only free finger on the left hand to two buttons only. Now move over to RFDG and see how many buttons your pinky can reach. That's why WSAD is a disadvantage for any game with even a moderate amount of keys, let alone ones with many hotkeys like Mass Effect.

I don't need to see the keyboard to get the right keys, I do that without seeing them. While you are right about not needing to reach as far to get to the keys on the right of your hand, it's a further reach to your left. I use the Control and Shift key a lot more than I use keys like E or F. WASD works just fine for me, I don't really see any reason to change it

More like this is superior
R- forward
W- back
T- shoot
E/Y- aim/use [interchangeable]
D- duck
Left/right mouse button- strafe

Less cramped hands + every key is in range across the whole keyboard (maybe not the p,l, and m keys) = yay

What game do you use this for? This completely baffles me.

WASD is popular for a reason, IMO.

For me, it's the most sensible place to have your hands positioned.

every game but rts and I rarely play those

My cousin showed me this setup about 10+ years ago and have never gone back. Back being arrow keys :D
I tried to play wasd and it cramps up the hand.
It's pretty much one row of keys that requires very little movement of the fingers verses a blob of keys and you having to work in a circular path. Try it! It's great!

Makes no difference I use a G13 gameboard with my PC so all my controls are custom mapped.

It rules. Not only is it better for playing games that screen can show information such as CPU usage, temperature, Twitter and news feeds, and much more.
Hell yep! This is how I play too. Throw a G19 into the mix for its extra mappable keys with my mouse hand and I'm set.

If it has to be one of those, then WASD.
Probably because those flash-games i played back when i was just a little kid had those as default and i didn't know how to change setting back then so... Old habits die hard.

No one I know uses the ESDF set up. Hell, back when I gamed on PC years ago, I always used the WASD keys. I didn't even know about ESDF until you said it.

Ok, is that you type as well? If so, then cool.

I tried ESDF... but oh it was just so convenient that R = reload. Now R = action/enter and T = reload... ??!?!

When I went back to some games that only supported WASD (kinda console ports) I gave up on ESDF. Most of all ESDF didn't really offer enough tangible advantages to me. I (like I think most people) have little dexterity with my pinkie so it's helpful that I only have to hit the much-bigger shift + Caps + Tab + Ctrl keys. Adding a row of Q A and Z available for my pinkie to hit just doesn't help.

WASD I find better in pretty much every way. You can reach shift easier, you say with ESDF you can reach T&G, but then it's the same probelm with Y&H. It's all down to preferance (And don't forget, Shift, tab and control are probably a bit more usefull than T & G)
