Would be pretty hard to pick one up, in a bus no less, no?

I, for some reason beyond my knowing, have a deep seated hatred for wasps. I kill them if I find them, but I don't walk down the street dressed in a hazmat suit with a tank of bee poison on my back.

The only thing i don't like about them is how close they get to you when you eat outside or something, but other than that i stepped on a bunch of them the other day on accident and didn't get mad

I've always reminded myself that it's a lot more afraid of me than I am of it when dealing with a wasp.

Wasps scare me to the bone, and if one of them gets too close, I'll kill it, but by no means should we exterminate them from the face of the Earth.

Mosquitoes on the other hand...

I don't really mind Wasps, but Mosquitoes... I'd make them extinct in the blink of an eye.

Having a small child in the house makes my Dad nervous around them, so he takes great pleasure in splattering them.
The small child or the wasp?
Good one, George. Good one.

Honestly, I just heard this topic on the radio with some woman arguing with a man over wasps. Fair enough, but the woman there wanted to make me scream! She said some of the most annoying things I've ever heard she said for example:

"Well they're just horrible scavengers" and "They're just useless".

This is just ridiculous I can't stand the sort of person who hates creatures just because they aren't any use to humanity. Personally I think that they have just as much right to live on the planet as we do. Hell all this stuff about wasps deliberately attacking people is nonsense, I always make a point of picking up wasps if they're trapped in a bus or car and I've never been stung once.

So where do you stand on this issue?
Everything is a part of the food chain at some point. History and our extermination (or introduction) of a species has taught us that there can be real serious consequences for meddling. Besides, Wasps are generally harmless, if annoying. As long as you don't try to poke at them with a stick, that is. :)

Hates them.

I got badly stung on the leg one day (wasp was on the ground, I trod on it) when I was about 5 - and 2 years later I swallowed one (whilst on my bike), and it stung all the way down.

If they're outside I'll freeze up, and bat them away with my hand if they get too close. If I'm drinking something then it's inevitable that I'll be chased around.

If they're in my house, I'll escape to another room. But if they're in my room - that's it, they die. I'd be quite happy for them to escape, or even to help them out - but they manage to fly into an open window, then when trying to get out fly EVERYWHERE but within 1cm of the (2-3 foot) gap. After 30s of being stuck they get mad and start stinging everything. At that point I find a nice, heavy, hard-back book (like an encyclopaedia) and smush them with it.

Blargh I hate the things there are 3 or 4 wasp nests in our neighborhood and nobody does anything about them. We killed off the ones that were living on our house 2 years in a row now but there are still a ton of them flying around.

they are useless, they are annoying and should be either taken out or moved away like we do to other things we no longer have use for, such as 30 year old servers etc, we humans are parasitic we will use then move on, the wasp is useless so lets get rid or adapt
In what way are humans parasitic?
In what way arent we, instead of trying to fins a alternative energy source we just squander all the oil we have, we are greedy and multiply without concern for the world
I think you need to look up the definition of parasite.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasitism
i didnt say we are parasites i sed we are like them we are a virus upon the world

I really hate wasps. I got stung in the ear when I was five. Worst four or so days of my life...
So now I kill 'em whenever I see 'em. I don't go hunting for wasps that'd just be silly, but I do squish 'em if they're buzing around the house.
It's not like they're endangered or anything.

Wasps are a vital part of the ecosystem. They keep the bee population down. However, that doesn't mean i enjoy their presence, but i do appreciate them. Except the sparrow wasps of japan, where i fuckin live. Fuck those things.

I had a phobia of the little buggers as a kid, and still do a little to this day. Which is weird, because I was never stung by one. But it also makes it scarier, because I don't know if I'm allergic or not. For all I know, my first sting could be my last.

Wait, so the only purpose of the wasp is to keep down the population of the single-stinging, less-aggressive, honey-making bees?

Screw that. Let's wipe those bastards from the face of the Earth.

I don't mind wasps all that much, only annoying if they won't just leave me alone. Got stung in the chest once, but it was pretty much gone entirely in a few hours.

Basically they're as annoying as other flying buggers that won't just bugger off :p
