A copy of Super Smash Bros. Brawl from Gamestop. I went there one day to buy used since I didn't feel like spending much. Store Clerk says it was $44. USED. Which is crazy for a used copy that was made three years ago. Being the dumb customer I was, I bought it anyway. Come home, play a few matches, and game craps out on me for like 17 minutes (Which I can't finish all-star mode in that time). Going back to the store a few days later, I ask for a working copy. clerk tells me they only got 2 used copies, with the other one in my hands. I go home with the other copy, and it was even worse than before. Now the game will stop working after the cation screen.

And the lesson for today is to go back and get a refund for stuff that don't work otherwise suffer with an expensive coaster.
That suckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkks and the reason its so expensive is because it's one of like 5 good games for the wii

The list is way too big.
I would say about 99.5% of everything the industry produces.

Think about it, most of the consoles are overpriced garbage for one reason or another. Most of the games are shovelware: there's really only one or two games a year worth buying.

I feel like I'm the only person that likes Brink...

Biggest waste of Money has to be either Dungeons or Ghost Warrior. I got excited for Dungeons hoping it was dungeon keeper 3 and was completely dissapointed. And Ghost warrior just failed to work for me as a sniper game. Whats the point of sneaking around when the AI spots you as soon as you fire one shot.
I liked it, i had it for the 360 it was good i just cant play online :/
Yeah, got it for the pc, might be why I like it more than most.

There's a huge trend of hating on Half-Life 2 on this forum that I don't see anywhere else
Yeah, I disagree with some of the things I've seen multiple times on here (Portal, Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age 1 and 2, notably) but everybody's different and have led different lives and therefore have different tastes. I liked all the games I mentioned, but hey...people like what they like.

This seems to be more of a "I hate these games and therefor they were a waste of my money," but in MY humble opinion, even if you buy a game and hate it, it's not a waste: you've played it, you've learned something about what kind of games you don't like and therefore have more fully defined and fleshed out your ever-evolving taste. To me a "waste" of money is something from which you get little or no use, like the person who bought Smash Bros. Brawl only for it to completely crap out on him, or my favorite, the Xbox USB cup-holder thing (lol).

i'd have to say Dragon Age: Origins....

it was all well and good until the broken final boss who could fly off into the distance where no one except my healer could hurt him and he'd never come back and just spam fireballs that insta-killed my party and spammed enemies that just annoyed the fuck out of me

Well I wont go in to ME.

Fable I agree, fbale 1 had a charm, it was also gret gameplay wise, fable 2 dissapointed me. I just ignored the hype/info for 3, thinking "well I am sure they know what to fix now after 2" but nope, further dumbing downeven the voice actors and music couldnt save that.

The soundtrack was ok, but thats bcuase I liked no rest for the wicked and no heaven.

The worst part about it being recycled was it had so very little content, the recycled the enemies, the guns, the quests, the environment, everything. In that world even with everything reccled they still didnt put the effort into giving me some interaction with the world beyond shooting.
It was just repeat the same damn thing, it gave no freedom. Hell I cant even talk to people or do anything other than shoot, loot pointless guns, sell them, use mony to get a higher damage gun, to kill thesame enemy, for more guns. I was sold on the variety of guns, a shotgun with a sniper rifle scopethat shoots rockets or somethng. not a tiy % change in reaload time, and a slightly different paint job. Even the shooting was bad, Halo is a fine shooter, guns play different, enemies are different, its a good game, here it was just, bad shooting and anything else was recycled. Worst part was I only bought it becuase people said it was "so addictive".
I'm not quite sure how the Fable series went astray. But I'd say the continual dumbing down and hand-holding of the games do contribute to this.

But I think you have put your finger on what separates a pile of pants like Borderlands from something like Fallout 3/ New Vegas. While both involved wandering vast wastelands, the gunplay livened things up. In Fallout, the weapons looked great, sounded fab and felt like they were supposed to and yet maintained their own unique feel.

Plus in Fallout, you could come up against a myriad of different enemies. Not just Skags'n'Raiders. Radscorpions, Deathclaws, Super Mutants, Centaurs, Cazadors, Fiends, Mole Rats, Caesar's Legion / NCR and errant robots to name some of the bad guys in Fallout.

I guess what separates Borderlands from Fallout is pure laziness and a lack of imagination and thought put into it's world.

Any sort of peripheral that requires a new set of exclusive games. I'd rather have all games work with it or non at all.

Duke Nukem: Balls of Steel Edition was pretty expensive...so much that I used up 10k of my Gamestop points to get 10 bucks off and traded in Bulletstorm to get 12 more off so I could actually afford the game...and it didn't make it worth it still...though the extras are really awesome ^^

I rarely buy consoles new for large amounts, and when I did it was my PS3 which next to my girlfriend and few good friends I love it more than almost everyone else. I don't get a chance to buy lots of game memorabilia, and I got a lot of free guide books when my old place of employment closed. I spend a lot on games though...like...a LOT...I don't know if it's wasted...but I have yet to beat over half the games I own, and still have yet to even start at least half of them...

I accidentally ordered two copies of Bioshock online and couldn't be bothered to return it, although I was able to give the extra copy away as a birthday gift for my brother, so it worked out okay in the end. It was still a waste of money since I could've used the money I spent on that extra copy to buy something else, but I suppose it saved me the bother of having to go out and buy something for my brother's birthday, so at least I saved myself some time instead.

I'd say the biggest waste of money in the industry is companies releasing updates for free to keep their game alive and please their fans and in turn many fans only know how to complain.

Hmmm, what could be an example?

I never purchase stuff that I'm not positive I'll adore.

If pressed, I guess getting an Alienware computer wasn't necessary... but meh, I had an extra $1000 burning a hole in my pocket. :p At least I still have an epic computer case to gut and refill every couple of years.

The Wii.

Nintendo promised so much, then took a collective dump on every promise they made with the system.
