The update of this story still doesn't do anything for me. I shouldn't have to use anything other than Steam for a game that I bought on Steam. Stop doing things that don't make sense, Ubisoft.

Oh noes not UPlay! I can nary believe that a company would require use of their own program to run their game. I cannot take this abuse of power by ubisoft's part and I will not purchase this game because I will never allow DRM on my system ever! [sub][sub][sub]Except steam because I love gabe newell <3[/sub][/sub][/sub]

Being serious now this doesn't stop me from getting Watch Dogs. I've never had a problem with UPlay outside of very slow update downloads. It's just another hoop to jump through to play the games I want to play. But hey if you don't want to get it because you hate jumping through hoops then more power to you. I on the other hand am a trained show dog and can jump through a few hoops for a game I want to play. Hell I might even pre-order it now, that'll show the man what I think of his DRM services!

Why the fuck are PC gamers constantly disrespected? There's no uplay app for fucking consoles that has to be installed (although you need a uplay account for some features), and yet PC gamers are the only ones saddled with this shit.

You know what, that update makes it a whole lot better for me.

The only issue I have with having Uplay on is that sometimes the big "Play" button is missing when I start AC4 on Steam, meaning I have to restart the client. I have no idea why or how this bug got through testing.

But if I don't have to start the client up, then that can't be an issue, which is A-OK. Now apply this policy to your other games, Ubisoft, please.

GOG. Humble Bundle. Green Man Gaming. Gamefly. GamersGate.

There is plenty of competition for Steam outside of shitty DRM like Origin and UPlay.

When I read this I was all, whatever Uplay is not so bad, I haven't had any problems with it. I just start it and forget about it.

Then immediately after I was gonna play AC4, and there was and error. I had to reinstall Uplay, which fucking uninstalled AC4 for some retarded reason so now I have to redownload all 25GB of it which will take hours. The best part is that Uplay download absolutely annihilates my internet (only program that does that in such a bad way BTW) so I can't do anything when that shit's going down.

So yeah, that's pretty neat timing. Kudos Ubisoft, you sure showed me what for.

You know, you might have had a point there, if GOG, Desura, Gamefly and GMG didnt exist and Ubisoft/EA actually published titles that arent their via their platforms. When's the last time you saw a Title that wasnt made or owned by Ubisoft being made available via UPlay? How about EA's Origin? Steam is the only DRM-client-thing (to be honest its just a retailer at this point) that sells games from everyone equally and has competition already.

Origin is for EA Games only. UPlay is for Ubisoft Games only. What was that about monopoly again? Ah right, a monopoly, the idea that you can sell something exclusively by forcing any other supplier of the same thing out of business or undercutting them in price that they can not compete. So..can you get Ubisoft or EA Titles that dont require their DRM-thingies? Apparently not, so you are rather confused on who is doing the monopoly thing at this point.

And the biggest Irony of all is, UPlay is DRM, right? Steam is also DRM, right? So why do we need 2 DRM Systems instead of one? Why do i need UPlay if i buy the game from Steam which already is DRM and therefore "prevents piracy" or whatever? If i were to buy a game from UPlay, i wouldnt want it to ask me to install Steam. So why do i have to accept it the other way around in the name of "competition" when truly..it really isnt.

I actually don't mind uplay its starts instantly updates seemlessly, and you get the little uplay rewards things which are kinda cool.

Have had less trouble with uplay than steam (verifying installation, launching game....., steam needs to restart to install update..loops... please start in offline mode, wont sign in till you go online and wont let you access offline so you have to go find the exe to launch a game.) and God forbid I use GMG, I can't even get an account set up to purchase, cause apparently it doesn't like my credit cards. gamersgate is tolerable though.

TLDR Origin>gamersgate>uplay>steam>gmg in my exp.

Best Marketing stratagy [sic] ever:
1. Announce game. Doesn't matter what game is, it could like a pony simulator or something.
2. Announce pony simulator will use proprietary always-online DRM service "PonyPlay". Tout 'features' such as achievements and friend list.
3. Await vehement rage from internet at existence of PonyPlay.
4. Announce that PonyPlay will no longer be used.
5. Everyone buys the game out of principal as it no longer uses PonyPlay. Even though they never even cared about Pony Simulator beforehand.
6. ???
7. Profit.

I dunno guys, it just might be crazy enough to work.

(A pony bit me once. I know I've already said that, but I feel like it needs repeating. Not, like, a radioactive pony or anything, so I didn't get magical ponypowers, but, on the plus side, I didn't get Tetanus either, so, I've got that going for me)

Games I have that require Uplay are AssCreedII, AssCreedBroHood, AssCreedRev, FarCry3 and Rayman Legends. Uplay has given me trouble when attempting to play every single one of them at some point or another.
That's unacceptable when considering that the existence of Uplay is of no benefit to me, the user. My life as a consumer would be measurably improved if Uplay went away. That's just sad.

Hurrah for DRM indifference.

Uplay does suck though, devours bandwidth and just sits like a fat cancerousa lump wallowing in it, yet delivering pathetically slow downloads. Physical copy it is!
