From Destructoid: http://www.destructoid.com/watch-this-guy-beat-portal-in-under-ten-minutes-189304.phtml

After nearly two years of working at his speedrun, a guy by the name of DemonStrate has completed Portal with a time of -- by his count -- 9:25.567. Impressive, especially if you aren't aware of some of the glitches that exist within the game and allow for such quick progression.

For the majority of this video, it's hard to keep track of what exactly he's doing. The rest is, well, waiting in elevators. Thankfully, DemonStrate says he is working on a commentary video, which is exactly what this needs. Regardless, it's a fun watch.

Also, this video confirms that you cannot play Portal without putting something in the toilet.

half the time I was going wtf. Then he skipped across the acid pool and I nearly broke my keyboard...

I did not know you could skip backwards at light speed.

Neither did I.

wtf is right, this is insane. so is jumping backwards a big deal or something?
Apparently it lets you go three times faster than normal. That and making a portal half in/out of a locked door is something I never thought of before. Nor is making a portal in a corner.

I mean, goddamn. Now I wonder why I didn't think of them :p

It's similar to the backwards long jumping in Super Mario 64 Tool-Assisted Speedruns. Each jump accelerates the player slightly.

This reminds of the slowdown-assisted Left 4 Dead TAS. I should be able to beat this time with slowdowns, if I wanted to do it.

it's called bunnyhopping, using the effect that many games have a small bit of forward velocity generated when a player jumps while moving, and using it to their advantage by timing jumps perfectly so this velocity addition stacks. The Source Engine patched this a while ago, but it was not patched for moving backwards.
Also, a lot of his speedrun is explointing very small errors in brush and model based clipping issues that Valve probably never would have caught in Q/A, such as a nodraw being a Portal-able surface.

The guy's got a tin ear (listen to what I'm assuming is his rendition of "Still Alive" at the end), but his run is pretty neat. Especially that trick with the companion cube in the cake room at the end.

Oh god... his singing...

Well, it was pretty bloody impressive anyway.

Actually, I think he's probably trying to sing that badly.

6:30 = wat. That said, I wonder if one person found all of these glitches or if they were cobbled together from the experiences of the many.
