I recently saw the watchmen film(I'm aware it came out a while ago) and I thought it was amazing. I don't feel the need to go into the details of why I thought it was good, but I am curious as to why it is such a divided playing field. Those of you who felt that it was lacking I would like to here your reasoning behind it. Was it that it was not true to the comic, or that it was but just didn't do it justice. I didn't read the comic as I wasn't born when it came out so I have a fairly large bias toward the film. Any way express your opinions any way you see fit.

Well, I liked it, but I didn't read the book until afterwards and it does change several parts that I suppose would anger fans.

Nay, I couldn't get into it. Maybe I was hoping for more excitement but it was just... blah. Superhero politics. I understand it was excellently made, great music and such buuut... Not my thing. Maybe it was the difference between how it was marketed and what I actually got, maybe I'll rewatch it sometime when it's on Netflix instant queue.

Yay if only for the fact it could have been much much more worse. Seriously I read that Zach Synder had to battle excutive meddling that would have had cut all the flashbacks, moved the setting to the modern day and had Nite Owl kill Ozimandas and save the world.

As for the film itself, I thought all of the characters were perfect, except Veidt who I had a lot of issues with. The film was very faithful, though it was hyperstylized which kind of missed the point. I didn't like some stuff they cut, like all the smoking and there was things they should have outright removed like Bubastis. The music was somehow entirely appropriate yet completely cliched. I thought the altered ending was a pragmatic move and at least internally consistent with the film.

I liked it but towards the ending it threw me out of balance since most of the changes occur there, but overall I thought that some aspects of the film were superior to the graphic novel, though I still prefer the graphic novel it's probably one of the better super hero films out there.

I read the book first, but I was skeptical of the movie. After my girlfriend pestered me for a while, I finally saw it, and I LOVED it. Except the sex scene. What the fuck?

The comic is better, but the movie is certainly a good film. It's just impossible to do a watchmen adaptation better than the original.

I thought it was alright, I guess an overall Yay. Not my favorite in the superhero/comic book movie genre (it'll take a lot to top The Dark Knight for that), but it was pretty well-made and for the most part faithful to the source material, aside from the one major change to the ending. Of course, cuts had to be made to make the story fit into a decent movie time frame, but I thought they cut it at pretty much the right places. The acting and characterization were OK, not great, but still OK. Yeah, as another poster said, it could have been a lot worse, so I'm fine with how it turned out.

Yeah, it was a great movie.

Despite hearing all about it years and years, I'd never actually read Watchmen, so like many other similar adaptations, the film was a great place to start; I enjoyed it as an excellent movie that made exploring the even richer book that much more gleeful. Similar cases could be made, in my experience for works like Fear and Loathing In Las Vegas, Battle Royale, Naked Lunch, etc.

I've only ever seen the directors cut and was impressed at how true to the book it was, allowing the expected compression of film. My only gripes were the casting of Adrian Veight and the altered mechanic of the finale, but those are hardly deal breakers on such a loving rendition of difficult work.

Read the graphic novel then saw the movie, and it was shite.

It just annoyed me that things were changed, and while I'm aware that it may have been MUCH worse, I don't care. Keep things the same or gtfo. That's why I preferred the extended editions of the LotR movies, because they were more in line with the books (even if some bits were just thrown in for shits and giggles anyway, and they left out the whole epilogue thing where the Shire gets invaded)

Yay. Most seriously considered and attentive comic book movie i've ever seen.

Absolutely adored it and anyone who hates it is wrong!

IMO
It was supposed to be a little awkward. Dan is generally a very awkward man, and Dr. Manhattan is a quasi emotionless god.
I really liked it, and the changes were pretty freaking minimal, and the cuts were understandable, and they showed up in the directors cut. The only thing I didn't like was that they cut the bernards originally. And I thought they wood, but when they were showing stuff before the release I saw them and got excited.

I like it, the only problem I have with it is the end, it makes no sense to defend it against Dr. Manhatten as he would wipe the floor with the entire world in a matter of an instant, they should have kept the original ending.

I don't know, I felt it was trying to hard, and ended up being so pretentious...
