I did not call you names like a 2nd grader.
How fortunate I didn't, either. Why do you feel the need to make things up?
I should've said "I did not call ANYONE names like a second grader". Making up stupid names like lamergate is just 2nd grade level insults.

And you seem to dismiss everyone who disagrees with you, so I'm not buying your claims about me.
I'll remember to tell that to NotTheBees. We've been having a lovely chat despite disagreement. But then, I suspect this is just another attempt to make things up.
You've already given a dismissive nickname to a group of people you disagree with, dismissing them all as a bunch of haters/shamers (same thing in this context). But what about the stuff u made up about my track record. Still waiting on that.

I actually didn't say anything negative about people in the first post you quoted.
So in your view calling them shamers is not saying anything negative about them?

No, you got offended, so you started doing exactly what you accused me of: mocking people in a less than clever fashion.
Ok sorry for the mockery. I had something to say while being sarcastic though and that point remains. Shit like lamergate says nothing, argues nothing, adds nothing, its just an insult added to annoy people.

Again, I'm sorry if you found off-hand remarks like LamerGate and Shamergate to be so hideously offensive (and saying so would be a better way to approach this).
Sorry did I hideously offend you with my sarcasm?

I find the sum of the movement to be utterly absurd. But what you've done here is not take me to task for not contributing, you've constructed a narrative notwithstanding the facts to justify doing exactly what you claimed you hated.
I made an argument about why your nicknames aren't helpful just mindless insults. I just happened to say it with heavy sarcasm because I was annoyed. When I start calling you fartery Amaranth then I'm doing the same thing.

No offense but as a bisexual male I really like #NotYourSheild to me is says "I am not a goddamned drone that falls in lockstep with some bullshit agenda that anyone who is not heterosexual clearly has" to me it does signify diversity and it only takes a small amount of effort like typing into YouTube and pressing enter. Literally a max of 16 keystokes.

My stance on sex and sexuality is obnoxiously pigeonholed. I am just assumed to be radically liberal on any and all counts. While I am surely more liberal than conservative the views and ideals I am given do not match me at all. I have many qualities that would be viewed as unorthodox and I tend to defy a few basic norms as I think we all do. I like #NotYourSheild because I detest being spoken for and I often am, and to me that is what #NotYourSheild is.

I believe the meaning can be a bit hazy on its own, I don't think GG necessarily needs a new motto, but expanding the motto (even though NYS is nice and concise) before abbreviating it could be useful in establishing that context. Some essential reading should be agreed-upon to associate with the slogan to avoid misinterpretation.

Far as I can tell (and this might be off) it's something like people are framing GG to be supported by a specific group of people, and painting that people outside of that group oppose GG.

Yet people outside of that group support GG, and believe they are being misrepresented by uncalled spokespeople, using their traits as a shield from criticism.

A sense of (even if not explicitly stated) 'women oppose GG' or 'non-whites oppose' or 'LGBT oppose' being conveyed leads to that "well, I don't oppose, I support" objections of "don't commandeer our group, we don't all conform to your opinion" or something along those lines.

Or maybe it's something else? *shrug* Help a bro out plz.

I think this video sums it up pretty well.

Heh. #Notyourshield is pretty damn ironic considering that its entire purpose is to be a shield. It's the equivalent of "I'm not racist. Some of my best friends are black!"

Uh, no, there's no irony in it at all. White male game journalists kept calling all gamers shitty, terrible, misogynistic, sexist, racist homophobes who are all white males, and they used the defence of women and minorities against these 'evil gamers' as their way of deflecting all criticism. #Notyourshield came about from women and minorities being pissed off at the fact that, surprise surprise, they didn't like that. The only irony is that some people seem to think there's any irony in it at all.

having never heard of it before it comes across as a negative when you first hear someone say it. not a good start
essentially it was invented on 4chan as a way to prove it wasn't about misogyny, and was started by white dudes pretending to be women and POC in an astroturf (IE fake grass roots) campaign. not sure how far its gotten though.
yeah dont you gamergaters realize, that when you sign on to 4chan there is a signal sent to your computer, to take your picture, and then run it threw the secret 4chan computer to determine your color and weight. no black men ever would go to an image board wear people post random things.

seriously people 4chan is a diverse place with sections for recipes, anime, games, LGBT, advice, Social , political and politically incorrect(never ,for the love of all that is holy, do you go into this section). it allows and absolutist free speech(to a certain point) that anyone(even the coloreds) are fine with visiting. yeah there are racist white fat guys as they exist in society, and such they exist on 4chan,facebook, myspace, etc. as totalbiscuit said" its a damn internet forum, not the Illuminati". to say that notyoursheild was an evil plot by 4chan. when you can look up the black man who started it, read that he had no problem expressing the fact that he did in fact start it, you can use twitter analytics clearly showing he started it, and he will admit that he regularly visits 4chan(as they are not an entity of misogyny living in a hollowed out volcano, they are a diverse group of people with a demographic better than the sites criticizing it). you must ask yourself who is the racist, the black man using a forum or the person calling him an uncle tom. stating that he is betraying his race by agreeing with some of the politics of fox news.(not conservative myself, but i am an adult, and realize that they aren't pure evil incarnate trying to destroy America.)

whats weird is i used to think everyone into tech knew about 4chan, as all the techy people in my school knew about 4chan and yeah most of these people were black. there were a lot of us into tech as well. noticed the same when i went to college. yet because all people who aren't in the know, only think of 4chan as a cabal of evil misogynist who leak nude pictures of celebrities. forgetting the fact that one guy posted those pictures to a forum. but hey i guess all facebook users are also evil for all the racist Confederates that use that site huh?

im sorry if this seems charged, but i feel that the whole "this was all a plot by the white guys of 4chan". is really racist.
