OoC: @Raka Did that thesis I wrote help you any? The simplest way to explain it is that the blades form based on hatred, but are not physical so they can't be blocked, but still cut and do physical damage.

um i understand the principle, i just don't understand how a mental affect translates to physical damage especially discriminatory physical damage like that

It just how this particular weapon works. Various O-Parts in the series had various effects. There was a gun that took water from the atmosphere to create bullets so it never ran out of ammo. A spear that could bend light. A ring that could gather electrified water. Even an O-Part that the user could speak into and create words with that words properties. It could literally create the word "Oil" which would be actual Oil.

Jin's O-Part is a basic fire effect. But when we first met him, his heart was so filled with hatred that the effect was corrupted and the flame was black. Which meant it couldn't be extinguished. If that gives you any perspective.

AEanna got to her feet as the gunfire subsided. She rubbed her shoulder. Though the potion had healed the wound flawlessly, it had been the most horrifying injury she had ever experienced, and the memory of the pain chilled her. Seeing the blood trail Laguna had pointed out, she followed it.
