They knew of Tophat's deed as a fellow pilot arived at the scene to defuse the bomb, but alas, it was too late by then. Or perhaps thou would wish to ask Tophat himself, after a bit of doging the question, he will most likely admit to it.
OoC @Salty: I figured that since Regulus is trying to prove to Jio that its telling the truth, forcing a immage into the guy's head isn't the best way to go about it ...yet.
