OOC: I'm back but I'm only putting my foot in the door. don't expect much posting. (Did i miss anything important?)

An explosion came from the rear of the kruzer as the bottom level of a cargo bay gave way. Ork war machines, trukks and even some orks themselves fell towards the ground.

 

[Saltyk]

"Is this your synthesizer?" Jio examines it. "So, what are you going to show me?" He smiles at EMily a little excited to see what the device can do.

OoC: Are the Chaos forces still around?

 

[Slenn]

"Should I start with a sine wave? You might find this interesting, this is what's called a 'pure tone'. Observe the oscilloscope."

She pressed various keys on the keyboard, producing different notes of sine waves. She starts at 100 Hz and goes up to 2000 Hz.

OOC: Jio should be seeing a perfect sine wave on the oscilloscope.

"Now, what else is there? How 'bout a square wave?"

OOC: Never a dull moment with you around, eh @Jort?

"Now...what to play?" I ask myself. Then I see EMily holding what I vaguely recognize as a synthesizer. I decide to wait until she is done to play.

Four sat down on the ground a few yards from Tanner. She sat there with a smile on her face as she watched Tanner tune his instrument and waited for him to start playing.

 

[Saltyk]

"Interesting. Not quite what Eddie had showed me earlier, though. Can it do anything else? And what is this device?" Jio asked pointing at the Oscilloscope.

 

[Outisakanobody]

OOC: Jesus, @Slenn. A lot of those notes (I don't know if that's what they would be called) hurt my ears. Probably doesn't help that I'm wearing headphones...

I grimace at the sounds the machine makes. 'Not the most pleasant of instruments.' I think quietly.

 

[Slenn]

"Here's something else." She starts playing the synth component to this song: (skip to 1:34)


"Here's something a little more my time. This time the device is using sound samples from other instruments."

 

[Saltyk]

"This sounds quite different from what Eddie had played earlier. It's an interesting sound, too. A little unnatural, but I kinda like that. Probably the demon half of me, shining through." Jio replies after EMily stops playing.

OoC: @Outis The last two were silent or close to it. I'm guessing they were outside of my hearing range. Was trying to decide if Jio could hear those or not.

OOC: @Outis. My electronics teacher mentioned that not a lot of people actually like the sine wave as a musical sound because it doesn't sound 'natural'. So I know where you're coming from. XD @Saltyk, I mentioned that EMily is only playing up to 2000 Hz.

"That's what electronic artists like about this device. It creates sounds that no other instrument can create, creating a whole plethora of things to explore in music."

"This device is called an oscilloscope. It shows the voltage going into the speakers that produces the sound. If you watch fast enough, you can see waves. Longer waves are lower notes, shorter waves are high pitch."

OoC: @Slenn I must of skimmed over that somehow. Doesn't matter much as I didn't react to it.

I give a short applause. "That was very...interesting, EMily, but I'm afraid it's not really my style. I'd rather stick with actual musical instruments, not machines." I say, trying to not sound too condescending.

 

[Slenn]

OOC: Edited my last post a little.

EMily made a bow forward while sitting down.
"To each his own. But a lot of people consider this an instrument. But enough about this, I'd sure like to hear something from you Tanner." She said with an eager smile.

<color=brown>"Yes, Tanner. Let's see what you've got."

Four had to cover her ears as EMily played. Because her hearing was so strong it hurt to listen. She wasn't sure if it was alright to uncover her ears now.

 

[Saltyk]

"I see. I gotta be honest, I've never seen anything like this, before. Not even an O-Part. That might be a good thing, though. If I encountered an O-Part like this, it likely would have been used as a sort of weapon. Not sure how I would counteract a sound based attack... Sound works like a wave?"

 

[Slenn]

"Sound is a wave in the air. Think of air as being a fluid like water but a whole lot looser. And sound is like ripples being projected through that water, but only in air. Different types of waves make different sounds. Sound can also travel through water, it's just a different kind of medium for sound to travel through."

 

[Outisakanobody]

I smile wide. "Well if you insist. I warn you..." I say as I drag the bow across the strings experimentally, "I haven't touched one of these things since my...well...since my uncle and aunt's funeral...so I might be a bit rusty." I say. 'I might as well go with an old favorite.' I think as I finally decide on what to play.

"I see. That could have been useful information in a fight like I mentioned before. Knowing your opponent's abilities as well or better than them could always be beneficial."
Jio stops to listen to Tanner for a moment. "Also different from Eddie. Don't really like it too much, though. Maybe that's the demon in me..."

Jin had paused to listen to Tanner. Who would think that he could play like that? He goes back to his practice.

 

[Drakmorg]

Four uncovered her ears as she saw that Tanner started to play. She smiled as the song made her feel extremely relaxed. Her thoughts started drifting to other things, Okay, now I know for certain I didn't get that for Tanner. I had no goddamn clue what a cello even looked or sounded like until now. Question now is, who the hell would give a Tanner a cello and try to play it off as if I had given it to him?
"Wow Tanner. That was nice. I'd never heard anything like that before." Four said with a smile.

As Rose wrote Four's thought in her black notebook she thought, Whelp. Seems I'm nearly found out.
