"Yes. I have been wanting an opportunity to practice using my barriers more effectively in combat." Grace said to Makoto.

"Zombies... yeah, I guess thats just what they were. People pretty much stopped calling them that after the pandemic began to spread though. That was fine when they were just some stupid monster on a cinema screen, but giving them such a frivolous name wasn't really appropriate when they were killing real people. You know about these things yourself then?" Growing annoyed with the man banging and yelling on the door into the ship, James turned around.

Makoto looked at Winona. "Well, now you may get a chance to see me in action." She pushed Winona away gently, then turned to Grace, settling in a boxing stance, bouncing slightly. "Whenever you're ready. But I'm warning you, I don't know how to pull my punches."
OoC: I got enough time for a quick spar.
"I have no idea. They seem to like those with some ties to major events, though. For example, my adoptive father once bore the Bright Shield Rune. I was also one of the few people that knew what had really happened at the surprise attack on the Highland Youth Brigade. And I had crossed paths with Luca Blight a few times. Sometimes it seems they simple like to pick a person seemingly at random. The Rune of Punishment, from what I heard, simply choose whoever was closest when the bearer died. The bearer of that Rune tended to die, fairly quickly, though." Riou replied.

Grace removed her knife so she would not use it accidentally and put her staff down before walking into a more open area away from the ship. "I am ready. You may make the first move." Grace said as she spaced out her feet a bit to get a more stable stance.

Makoto followed Grace away from the ship to the combat area. When Grace gave the go-ahead, Makoto sprung into action. She ran towards Grace, then stopped a short distance away. The tonfa on her right wrist glowed, and after a second or two of windup, Makoto dashed forward, devilering an energy-backed punch.
"Ah. Well, these zombies weren't the result of magic, but science. The T-Virus was created in a lab, and then some asshole released it into a crowded city called Stockholm, and it spread like wildfire. Covered the globe and wiped out most of humanity before we were able to turn it around and start to clear out the undead to regain lost ground. It took a long time though, and cost many lives." His expression darkened. "Far too many."
"Yes, I suppose trying to understand such things is a little impossible. We're talking about things that have existed since before recorded history." He sees the match that Sara has referred to. "Sure, it might be fun. And I'd like to see other martial art styles." Riou smiled back.
OoC: There is only one person in Suikoden that I know of who was possessed by his True Rune. Yuber, bearer of the Eightfold Rune. He appeared in the first three Suikoden games, and the powers of the Rune are unknown. He has been shown to teleport and summon monsters, but it is unknown if this is related to the Rune's powers.
What is known is that he loves to spread chaos, death, and destruction. He also seems to hate the other True Runes and tries to kill their bearers regularly. In Suikoden 3, there was a plot to destroy a True Rune that he was happily involved in.

Grace used a small barrier to send Makoto's punch slightly off course so that it sailed past her, then disrupted Makoto's footing with her leg and delivered a surprisingly powerful punch to her chest (the area just below her neck and above her breasts).

Makoto reeled back, catching her breath. When she recovered, she ran towards Grace again, and split into three, one running, one jumping low, and another jumping high. The two lower ones dissaperead in a poof, and the high Makoto, the real one, charged another shattering punch and let fly.
