Rose woke up again, feeling quite refreshed after her nap. She noticed Erica was gone and resolved to thank her later. She put her shirt back on, then headed outside hearing a commotion.

Despite looking like she did, Shani had nothing in the way of buckles or knots on her clothing.
When Joe collapsed, Shani started cackling like a maniac. Even as Tophat leaped on her, knocking her over and stabbing her in the chest, drawing thick, black blood with his knife, her cackling continued unabated. She didn't seem to notice or care about the mist at all.

Makoto followed Grace and Gerry outside, and saw Shani cackling through the red mist. "What the..."
As the blight continued to affect Joe, the mist cloud continued to expand, stretching far passed the battle field as it enveloped the passed everyone.

Gerry cautiously walked over to Joe as Grace approached Tophat. "What is going on?" she asked calmly as she drew her knife.
Erica tried to strafe around to get a better shot at Shani while wondering if she was the only one affected by the red mist. Seeing Tophat on her, Erica looked around trying to see if there was another threat somewhere. She saw Joe on the ground and ran over to him. "Joe! You alright?!"
Shani found that her mad cackling became more difficult as Tophat choked her. She didn't like that much, so she decided to make him stop. She looked right up at him, a twinkle in her eye. Charm Monster. Tophat began to regard Shani as one of his most trusted friends and closest allies.
With Tophat being on top of her, she was safe from Valentine's claw attack as it threatened him instead of Shani.

@Gear: It's rather noticable, the closer you are to Joe the worse the feeling however. And everyone feels it.

Annoyed that she had not received an answer, Grace pushed Tophat off of Shani and pulled her to her feet. "Who are you and why are you being attacked by these people?" she asked.

As Joe stood, through the mist it looked almost purple around him.
He seemed to disregard everyone calling to him as he began to scream. The mist seemed to condense incredible to the point that no one could see anything in front of them.

Makoto tried looking around, but the mist was too thick to see anything. She began to feel unweel, then flinched as Joe screamed. "What's happening?!"
Valentine wasn't bothered by the mist, but she was by the scream.
